Whenever i'm bored i want food, or when i'm really really upset. Anyone else have this? What do you do to avoid those emotional cravings? Need advice!

I find something for myself to do... It usually takes away from both feeling bored and hungry.

The same works when feeling down, just find something to distract yourself with, a hobby or something. :3

i know how you feel! once i feel myself get the urge to go eat just because of boredom, i try to do something that will keep me busy, clean, do my nails, look through a magazine, get caught up in a movie or tv show... but sometimes i will just give in and eat what i feel like. i just keep healthy foods in the house just so that when i do eat because of boredom, its not too unhealthy!

This is very common. I have the same issue. Now that you realize this is happening, try heading it off before it gets out of control by-

Keeping a food diary and writing down your feelings in relation to food as well, planning your meals and snacks ahead of time to give yourself more structure, have a "game plan" of what some "coping strategies" you will do when the urge to overeat occurs (ie: make a list of strategies such as : brush teeth, walk the dog, call a friend, get on cc website, paint your nails, read a book, listen to loud music and jump around for a while...whatever will distract you).

After a while of continuously implementing your "coping strategies" over eating, the "coping strategies" will become your first response instead of eating...

the food diary and cc-ness helps a lot. and tonight i'm going to make up a "strategy list". i just got to be more creative! thanks guys!

Wow, I know the feeling, cause it's been happening to me when I come home from work at night.  I just feel so bored, I just have to snack, they're healthy snacks, don't get me wrong, but it makes me go over my calories.  I know what I have to do though, do other things that take my mind off food or go exercise, even though it's too cold to go out and walk.  I'm sure everyone's been in that boat once or twice in their diet plans.

I have the same problem.  Being bored and/or stressed definitely makes me want to eat.  I find reading a book helps.  When I watch TV I tend to want to eat more, because snacking kind of goes with TV, but it's hard to snack and read, so that usually works for me.  Also, coming on the cc website and logging in my cals and just searching through the forums helps too.

I know what you mean.  I've found that it is not so much what I eat, but just the act of chomping and swallowing.  So, change what you chomp and swallow to carrots, celery, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.  Season them with a seasoning salt and or hot sauce or even a light soya or terriyaki.

Also good are concentrated soups like Bovril's chicken or beef.  Low in calories and fill yourself up.

Finally, and only if you are counting calories effectively, nothing wrong with two jiggers (i.e. 3 oz) of straight vodka or whiskey.  Providing that you do not go out afterwards and preferably are either on the computer and or then going to bed.

Good luck Wink

Didn't realize your age...forget the booze!!!

Just chomp away at the veggies and have those soups ALL YOU WANT.

I have recently taken up knitting to overcome this problem. If I really want food, I steam edamama (in the pod). This is like eating chips, but it's low in carbs high in protein, and very filling.
