Boredom Eating

I'm trying to come up with a good activity to curb eating out of pure boredom.  Any suggestions?

Try painting your nails. You wont want to mess up the wet paint by opening a box or bag.

This might sound weird/painful, but it really works!

When you start feeling cravings because you are bored, lay down on the ground and do as many push-up as you can, making sure that you are breathing right. Then, turn around and do as many sit-ups as you can. (Maybe 30, 30?) Then turn back to the push ups and continue the cycle.

When you start warming up (or sweating) stop and drink lots of water. Do this until your cravings are gone.

I know it may not sound appealing, but believe me, once you are on the floor working out and you feel the heat, your cravings will stop and you will want to do anything BUT eat.

Games are always good...I download like, 1 hour free trials of games and they distract me well enough =)

There are lots of fun ones too!

Computer games work for me as well. I doubt it's really a very healthy alternative, but I could play a game all day and not once think about eating.

I also find that knitting is a strangely addictive hobby that is very time consuming, but also demands constant focus; thus, boredom eating is curbed.

I totally agree with the playing DDR thing , its fun and a good work out. I have problems with boredom eating too and i think the best thing is to go for a walk or a jog , that way your not even around any food and your get a work out. Or make plans to go hang out with someone because I know I"m always less likely to eat when I'm out hanging out with friends , not thinking about it.

I struggle with this too.  Some things I do to take my mind off of eating are:

-play my guitar
-write in my journal
-work a crossword puzzle (I have a huge book of them from the New York Times that are challenging and really addictive)
-paint my nails
-watch a cartoon online, like an episode of South Park
-write a letter to a friend of mine who lives far away
-pick a chore I've been meaning to do and force myself to do it
-read a chapter in a good book

I'll pick one of the above, or something else if I can think of it, and force myself to do it.  I tell myself I have to finish this chapter or this journal entry, or watch one TV show, or finish one crossword puzzle, for example, and then if I still feel like I want something to eat, I'm probably hungry and I fix myself a healthy snack.

Have you tried chewing some sugar free gum? I've heard that can help :]

Work on your homework.

Hahaha

Chew gum while you work, and leave the radio or a cd or your ipod on quietly

Your mind will be on too many things for food.

boredom eating is my biggest problem, haha. usually i think up something that i know i can watch for a long time (a show, etc) on youtube...or i'll take a long walk. sometimes i make up rules for myself (like "if you're too lazy to exercise when you're tired you're too lazy to eat when you're not hungry") but that only works when i'm feeling especially in control of myself.

making a cup of tea helps too.

I totally eat out of boredom too!!!! Its AWFUL!!!!
