Boring and Annoying

My sister just called me 'boring and annoying' and said that all i do is count calories and how many peices of fruit i eat and i'm not fun anymore. She is stick thin and probably suffering from malnutrition so I probably do hark on about healthy healthy stuff with her more than i should. Trouble is I think she might be right. I don't want to be one of those preachy people not only obsessed about their own healthy eating (bad enough?) but also pushing it on to everyone and anyone else who will listen. Also, I was helping my cousin to lose weight - being like a 'buddy' for exercise and stuff - but I think she started to resent me for it and in the end she just gave up. Anyone else being told, or think they've become, an annoying health nut bore?

I have had people comment that I'm a little obsessive about calorie counting, but I just ignore it.  That would be my advice to you.  People tend to associate healthy eating and close observation of caloric intake with anal retentiveness which may = boring and annoying.  However, you have a huge support base here at CC and I'm probably going to be the first of many to tell you that you need to ignore the comments.  You are on the right track to a healthier lifestyle and that is what's important.  Perhaps some of the boring and annoying commentary comes from people with a hint of jealousy? Just because your sister is thin does not mean she is healthy. 

Try not to let it get to you.  You need to do what makes YOU feel good, and don't worry about the rest.  :)

I have been doing this for about three years now.  When I started mot people saw it lasting a few weeks... when I kept on and started losing weight, they decided that I must be developing an ED... With the exception of a few friends, people were not that supportive.  The friends thought I was kinda nuts for being so anal about counting... but my hard work has paid off... i am 40 pounds lighter and WAY happier and one of my BEST friends is now seemingly addicted to this site and counting now too...  Just ignore it, and keep up the good work!

ive been on this for 8 months.... and i do not talk much about it.... and people do not react unless interested will ask what am i doing but again will just not be interested when I say .. water, walking and counting calories

you have to be on this day in day out until you get the hang of portion size and all that...

but boring and annoying I do understand.. I try to be well rounded on all topics and will talk about it if asked...

haha there's nothing wrong w/ being healthy! Most people are prolly just jealous of your success.  Don't worry about that! You do this because you want to and to be healthy!  It's a much better thing to loose the weight properly and the healthy way over a period of time rather than develop an ED and loose that way. 

 I think we all turn our "attachment" from food to the site, but honestly there's nothing wrong w/ that.  It helps to have support and motivation and somewhere where ppl understand you... like cheers! LOL

For me this is kind of like a double life! No one knows I even get on here! If someone asks me a question I tell them (for ex: how many cal equal a pound of fat type thing) but I don't count calories now that I can put good estimates on what I'm eating, and I cant even imagine what my friends would say if I told them hey I'm a part of an online calorie counting weightloss sight! lol

I've shared this site with 3 friends so far and all 3 have looked and then left. One friend wants a gastric bypass so she is ignoring anything related to dieting until she gets the info from her insurance company about it. Sad. Another friend I told that I was counting calories and I had said I was hungry because I knew we were having spaghetti for dinner and I wanted to enjoy it. She insisted I was "not doing it right" because I was hungry and I was "starving myself".

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". Almost no one is interested in losing weight the correct way, slowly and surely.

i have shared this too and i still get asked how am i doing it and what pills am i taking and crazy stuff

but when i say its simple walk/jog 30 mins a day, drink water and calculate your calories they think i am lying....and ive been called a lier [=

There are still a lot of folks out there looking for quick fixes, miracle diets, pills, colonics, wraps etc. to make them lose weight fast.

We know the cons of such quick fixes and have decided to use CC to being a healthy lifestyle, which over time will result in healthy weight loss.

You can recommend the website to friends and acquaintances, but it's like the old saying: you can lead a horse to the trough, but you can't make it drink.

In the meantime you keep successfully doing your thing, getting happier, healthier and slimmer as time progresses.

i've recommended this site to a few people now and tried to impress upon them that although it does sound all a bit obsessive and time consuming it really, really works! my cousin frustrates me the most because she is all or nothing - so she severely restricts her diet and goes jogging everyday then gives up and eats everything in sight and doesn't move! but what can you do?

having thought about my sister's comment tho i am realising that I do tend to tell people what they should or shouldn't be doing quite a lot and it would be best to take a sec and judge whether someone wants my advice or not before dispensing it! hmmm... 

 

any obsession you have with calorie counting and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle is kinda good. that just means you will program this all in your head and it will stay with you for the rest of your life. eventualy you will retain as much as you can and you will slowly get bored with cc.

just had to 'revive' this old topic because my sister - who called me boring and annoying - has started calorie counting! Welcome to the dark side.....!!!!!
