Hello everybody,
I too love working out with the elliptical machines. I go to the gym every day and do a 1 hour workout. I enjoy it a lot but I also catch myself staring at the calories burned and the time alot. What can I do to make my workout more interesting? My gym doesn't have tv's and reading books demotivates me, so I train with my ipod.
What are some tips and tricks you guys use while working out? What's some music you work out to?

I do the same thing (stare at calories burned and time elapsed) and what's worked for me is to cover the display with a towel so I can't obsess over how many calories I'm burning each minute. Also, it may sound a bit cheesy, but you can buy audiobooks on the iTunes store to download onto your iPod and those pass the time incredibly well as far as my experience has gone. Maybe try reading a magazine, the articles are short, usually interesting, and require little focus. I usually read motivating magazines like Shape, Self, Women's Health, etc., but the gossip rags are great too, they usually have articles on how to get that bathing suit body or have motivating shots of actresses on the beach in bikinis.
Hope this helps!

i also cover the little screen that has the minutes passing, calories, etc, bc if i stare at them it's like they literally stop moving. i usually listen to my ipod and set little goals, listen to 3 songs and then look at the minutes/calories, surprisingly if you let yourself get caught up in the music the time goes by much quicker and you will be done with atleast 10 minutes before you know it! also, if i close my eyes sometimes (not in a creepy way, just listening to the music) i dont get as bored bc im not staring at the 4 walls. then again, i have the machine in my house so i dont mind looking weird haha.
I usually do watch the minutes, actually.. I do intervals with the resistance, so if I'm on a tough one and I see that I only have like a minute left on it, I think to myself, "Only one more minute! You can do it!" I know it sounds cheesy but for me it works... also I listen to music that I love. That gets me to thinking about the song instead of how tired I'm getting! haha We have TVs in the gym, but I only watch it if it's on the news because of the little ticker at the bottom. I always wear my iPod.
Good luck to you!
