my boss not only just noticed that I was losing weight, but instead of asking, he said, " You're losing weight. Congratulations."

Isn't it awesome when people you see all of the time start to notice!?

I remember when my boss said... "You're looking different lady, good job!!"

I was like... "ugh... thanks :)"

I think he has no idea what to say... I'm the only women in his department so I think he tries to word things right and then they end up sounding all wrong.

That's better than what my boss said to me (he didn't bring it up - it was brought up in front of him, and he responded) - "Well, I guess I'm working you hard enough, since you don't have time to eat."

First, don't you dare take credit for my success and motivation.

Second, don't you dare suggest that it was both passive (I've worked my ass off to get here, both in willpower and activity) and unhealthy (I eat plenty).

Third... go away. (Actually he is going away in a few weeks - new job - yay).

Sorry, needed to vent (he's actually the only person who has made such a comment - everyone else in my life has been wonderful with their praise).

rtsandlin, that's awesome that your boss noticed and responded in such a positive way.

I thought it was.  I'm the only woman in my department as well. (seeing as how I'm an engineer and all).

I thought it was pretty cool too that after he said that he asked if I had an accountability partner cuz him and someone else that works here hold each other accountable if I needed one. It must be working since he isn't even really overweight.

Hehe I'm in an all-male department too (Computer science -- Engineering's sister male-dominated field)

The technician here was the first (and only) person here to mention anything. He's a 40-something year old geeky (yet very kind-hearted) guy who after I lost about 55 lbs awkwardly says 'you... uh.. appear to have gotten smaller...' I luaghed and said 'yeah, I've lost a bit'. he answers 'uh, well.. good for you. good going. You look good! I mean...uh.. yeah... I need to go to my office now' then face crimson ducked out as quickly as possible. It was obvious he was trying to compliment me without being chauvanistic. I think I appreciated his comment more than anyone's (family and friend's) gushing "You look fabulous!" exclamations.

I'm an engineer too.

And I'm a biologist, stuck in an engineer's world. Weird.

Where do you work r6riderchick? and amethystgirl? and what kind of engineering? I definitely don't know if this is what I want to do forever.

I also work a job where I'm one of the only females. Weird  environment, eh? They usually try to pinpoint what is different about me...my hair, new clothes, am I taller. Heh heh. They're sweet.

It's good you are losing weight! You're a beautiful girl.

Thanks. You're a beautiful boy too!

I'm an engineer as well! (Which means me in a dept. full of guys)

One of the guys has started calling me "Will" because he's noticed my willpower to stay away from the sweets and treats (that apparently live on my desk because I'm the only one who won't devour the whole thing instantly). I guess I'll take that as a "you're hard work is paying off" compliment.

He's also consulting me on how he can lower his heart disease risk. :) haha

nicely done! That's definitely a compliment. What do all you fellow engineers do? I'm mechanical and I work in a paper mill as a project engineer.

I'm civil - but I'm working at a natural gas storage facility as a project leader. (So not doing civil work at all - morey mechanical related)
