I am now going into my second week of the beginner runner's training (it's from Runner's World). And I have been reading a lot about HIIT, and was wondering if I can do both? Or, if I should do one vs. the other. And what should the schedule for the HIIT be?

Thanks

I hope its okay because I do HIIT and alternate days when I do upper body I'm going to add in some steady state cardio afterwards.

I don't see any reason why you can't do both, except if you are only starting to run, HIIT (in the form of running) might be harder on you. You can do HIIT with other things - biking or even jumprope.

Here's a HIIT schedule.

You may find that, eventually, you can completely replace running with HIIT - for weight loss. HIIT, in it's true form, is very intense and can burn a LOT of calories as well as put a LOT of stress on your body (especially your heart), so if you're just starting to run or you're in the beginning phases of working out altogether, don't overdo it. :-) Good luck!
