Why bother with milk in cereal...water is good!

Quote  |  Reply

Okay I know it sounds gross but I ate my Post Great Grains Pecan Crunch this morning with some added dates and...WATER!

My friends laughed because the only time anyone ever does that is when you are craving cereal and are out of milk (and are 8 years old!).  But I hate milk (seeing as how it is cow breast milk for a future half ton animal) and started drinking soy milk recently but am not sure about the whole 10 days freshness on the soy milk.

Due to the sweetness of the dates and cereal (and the INSANE amount of calories in the cereal - 200 for a 1/2 cup!!!!!) the water was fine.  Wierd but fine.

So I saved myself about 100 calories today (late-night popcorn snack here I come) and don't have to rush to buy milk.

Anyone else put water on cereal or anything else equally strange?

i once put orange juice on my cookie crisp. um, don't ever try it. haha.
sometimes I do half skim milk and half water. Totally works for me. But Ive used skim all my life, I would guess people who like whoel milk would hate the difference
i like dry cereal so i save calories that way sometimes. I've never tried water though. Sounds weird, but maybe I'll try it someday...
I don't know about water in cereal but damn karen! You are smokin hot!
ive tried that once in my life and will not try it again. i think it tastes disgusting and dont know how u can eat it.

LOL   I add a splash of milk to my cereal and then fill the rest of the bowl with water all the time!

I save the milk for when I have a cookie!

Yeeeeeeah... can't do water, can't do juice, can't do coffee.  It's got to be milk for me.  Especially egg nog.  Oh man, you have not LIVED until you've had egg nog in your Cap'N Crunch.
um...blech.  why?  what's wrong with milk?
cereal with water.. ehh. doesn't appeal to me. id prefer my cereal with nothing than to have it with water..
I always eat my cereals with Yogourt. Yoplait has great dessert tasting yogourt at only 35 calories per 100g. It's totally awesome!!!!

Sister we need to talk!  Egg nog has a ton of calories.  I picked water out of necessity and was shcooked that it was okay tasting.  The eggnog sounds rich and delicious but i'll pass on the heart attack for breakfast.

Cellulite delight-as your sister in weight loss - you are grounded my dear!  Egg nog...gasp!

baileys Irish cream on my special K.
Uh, lady, back off.  Not everyone is so paranoid about calories as to completely banish egg nog from their diet.

I'll be damned if I ever give up my fast food, my cupcakes, and my egg nog.  I know how to work it into my diet and I still have no problems what-so-ever losing weight.

And ya know what?  I had the steak and eggs on a biscuit from Micky D's for breakfast yesterday.  Hello six hundred calories of delicious greasiness that didn't stop me from dropping a pound.

Pfft..  Give up egg nog.  HAH.

Well then PLEASE tell me your secrets!  i did "cheat" yesterday and ate taco bell (heaven) and still barely had 1500 calories so i did okay.

What the hell did u eat for the rest of the day?!?!  How do you do it???  I am slowly losing weight but can't wait until I can exercise so it will really fall off.  Are u a workout nut or something?

Diets are torture if you totally ban all the goodies. Personally the only cereal I’ll put water in is oatmeal, but I really like milk. Hooray for high bone density.
I eat Taco Bell three or four times a week.  I finally live down the street from one and don't have to drive across town to sink my teeth into a gordita.

I'm not a workout nut and my idea of exercise is ripping off clothes to have sex, and being on top during.  I do, occassionally, hop on a stationery bike (and am trying to make a habit of it since it no longer kills my damaged knee) but even then it's for half an hour to an hour at moderate effort; burning between 250 and 550 calories.

I just make sure I have room in my caloric budget for these things.  Yesterday, after my delicious, yet a little too salty for my taste, breakfast I had grilled cheese and sautee'd vegetables for lunch with a couple bites of ice cream that my nephew demanded I have or else he was going to dump it in my shoe.  My evening snack consisted of cottage cheese and diced tomatoes with hot sauce and a half cup of some yummy rice/chicken/black bean/corn thingy doodle Alex makes.  So good.  And then for dinner we made spaghetti with zucchini and cauliflower, garlic bread, and shortbread cookies for dessert.

I didn't go over 1250 calories.  I didn't have insanely small portions, either.  I was forcing down the last bite of that cookie to make sure I got my calories over 1200.

My biggest secret is having fun with this whole losing weight thing.  If I make it a chore, counting every last calorie, trying to figure out what I can cut where so I can have an additional treat later in the day would only make me nuts and likely to go over my calories.

My breakfast cereal is 120 calories for a cup.  My half cup of milk (skim, two percent tastes yucky) is about 50 calories.  Add in the quarter cup of oatmeal (80) and the piece of toast (60) with chunky peanut butter (40), I've got a 350 calorie breakfast that keeps me full my lunch.  Most times I nix the oatmeal and peanut butter 'cause then I get too full.  Depends on my mood that morning.

Lighten up. :) Have some fun in life.  If you like water in your cereal, go for it.  If you don't, get powdered milk and make it up yourself.  There're a couple of pretty low-calorie ones out there.

I hated milk all my life too, never drank it... now have severe osteoporosis, and break bones by looking at them wrong in the mirror.

Did you know that your peak for bone density is before age 35?  If you don't get the density in your youth, when your estrogen/testostrogen wains (35-50) you will be the frail old lady with the hump on her back.  Drink the milk or take calcium suppliments.

Lol, water-ery cheerios? I guess that'd do in a pinch...

Once I was out of soymilk, so I substituted with applesauce. It is the tastiest! That and a couple tablespoons of raisins, and I ate that, and only that, for breakfast every morning all week, 'cause it was so good. You should totally try it some time. ^^;
I have tried to do water with my cereal before because I am always trying to find tricks to lower my calories but ehhhhh it wasn't yummy to me lol However I used to use skim milk but now I'm in LOVE with Light Vanilla Soy Milk, it makes me cereal and oatmeal sooooo sweet and delicious :) and only for about 40 calories
