hi all!
i'm after some advice for as i fall under what I believe they call the 'pear shape'.
today i tried on some jeans and it's stink because one size won't get over my legs but the size up is too big around the waist!
when i lose weight it comes off the top half of me which it doesn't need too.
any suggestions for exercises i should be doing? i don't want to build muscle in my legs either, as i already have "giant calves" and people call me 'sparta' which i take in good humour but secretly hate!!!

as a general rule, women lose fat from their upper bodies first - arms, face, and chest.
there is another thread here about hourglass figures, and the main recommendation I've seen is instead of just trying different sizes, try different brands. you may have to try several, but you should be able to find a brand that is cut for a small waist and and ample bottom half (whether it be hips or legs.)
Good Luck (and if you find some great ones, be sure to post about it ... other members with the same problem will be grateful!)
But I've noticed since I've lost weight in my stretch jeans that once were so tight I had to lay down to zip them up...they slide on relatively easy and button no problem but once I wear them a few hours the waist loosens up and even thought they are still fitted to my thighs they slouch because my waist doesn't hold them up.
ahhh hello twin! I have a pair of stretch jeans too and I have to use a belt but they are great as I don't have to PEEL them off inside out as they are stuck to my calves.
i once had a pair of knee high boots and i had to use a zip puller to do them up, next thing i break the zipper hehe. what i got this winter tho is a pair of mid calf boots and they are great.
Hey don't feel bad. I put a lot of weight on my ass and thighs, and I'm a GUY! So yeah, it really sucks. I'm glad I don't have as huge a gut as some guys, but I hate my flabby ass, thighs and saddlebags. And the most annoying part is that now that I've lost weight, my thighs and ass are all droopy and hanging where they used to be fat but at least I didn't look like a geriatric elephant. I just hope that as the rest of the weight comes off that the skin in those areas will firm up a bit. I was almost 100 lbs over my ideal weight, so it's not as bad as some of the really huge people have to deal with after they have weight loss surgery. With clothes on, you would never know, but I would like to look good in just my underwear or birthday suit, too!
the more cardio you do the more fat will come off you, unfortunately we dont get to pick where it comes off first.. Id personally take mine off my hips and thighs. LOL. try ramping up your exercise-cardio and try the jeans on again in about a month. The rest of your body will eventually catch up to your upper body.
like the other post, try on relaxed fit jeans in different brands. I wished i could remember where is saw something once on how to dress for your body shape to make you appear slimmer... Im going hunting for it.
cheers!
Typically pears have:
- A long or slender neck
- Sloping or narrow shoulders
- Narrow back
- Small to medium bust
- Defined waist

Pear Shape - this is said to be the most common with women.
Typically women with pear shaped bodies have a slender face and neck. Shoulders are shapely but also narrow and slope downward. Small to medium bust and a well defined waist. While the lower area- buttocks, hips, thighs and calves are comparatively larger holding most of the weight.
Dressing the Pear-Shaped Figure:
We have to think about balance. We want to give the appearance of wider shoulders and bigger bust this will help take the attention off the widest part of the body by bringing the eyes up to your face, neck, bust and waist. So in other words what you need to do is to over play your upper body and give your lower body a slimmer sleeker look. Do this by using color on top, wide neck lines, accentuate your waste and wear dark colors on the bottom.
Top it off!
Because your bottom half is slightly larger than your top, you can wear slightly looser fitting cloths on top with out any problem. However, fitted tops look great on you as well. Blouses with a lot of detailing, tops in all sorts of prints with lighter and brighter colors, or textured fabrics are what you want to look for in your tops. This will help balance your lower half.
Puffy sleeves and tops that hug the shoulders or ones with wide-set straps will help to visually widen the chest and shoulders.
Look for necklines that are scooped, draped, v'd, rounded or squared. Any neckline that has a lower and wider neckline will look great. These will emphasize your bust and draw attention to your face. Also look for an under-wire or molded bras to help with balance. A halter top that ties at the neck will give the shoulders the appearance of width they need, and this will help balance out your hips and thighs.
Bring It On!
A-line and flared skirts look best on pears. You want to look for jeans or pants that are flared or have a wide-leg, this will help hide your thicker thighs. Straight legged jeans are also a good for a sleek slimmer look. Go for low-rise dark jeans (the darker the better) and dark pants. This gives the illusion of a slimmer hips and bottom.
When choosing a dress, ch oose ones with an empire waist or a wrap dress which will flow over the hip area. Sleek shoes with a thinner heel will work better vis ually rather than clunky footwear.
Stay Away!
Stay away from body-hugging tight skirts. This will only show every bump and curve. You also want to keep away from full skirts or ones with large pockets. Pockets will only&nbs p;add dimension to your a lready fuller hips. Avoid dresses that have a bias cut that hugs the bottom. Bold patterns, large checks, and light colors are not recommended for below the waist.
Stay away from tight jeans with too much detail on the hips or bottom, such as flaps or embroidery on back pockets. This will only draw the eyes right to your problem area. Stay away from pants with bulky side pockets.
Stay away from tapered jeans or pants, this is something you never ever want to&nb sp;wear. The narrow and tapered legs will only make your hips appear huge.
Stay away from high-waisted pants as these tend to make your bottom look larger.
Stay away from jackets that finish at the widest part of your hips.
Stay away form flashy belts that draw attention to your hips and thighs.
Jeans for Your Pear Shape
here is a list of jeans that are made to fit pear shaped bodies. These are jeans that have more room in the hips and thigh area. If you have larger thighs, you may want to stay away from the slim fit.

Cardio is the best way to lose inches. You'll lose in your waist first but it'll eventually begin coming off in other areas as well. Some just take longer than others! (Trust me, I'm with ya....)
As for jeans, I'm VERY picky with them because I have the opposite issue... My legs are smaller but my waist is, well not even close to small... ;-)
I'm a huge fan of Joe's Jean's and Seven for mankind. They're a little pricey but as long as I'm confident in them it's worth it. Good luck on your quest!
