So, we bought the car today.
Alex was on the phone making weird faces at the bank (when he's disappointed, his face stays the same but when he's thinking positive thoughts he looks kind of spiffy sometimes) earlier today. We sent off an application for a car loan in an attempt to get a second car before the baby is born so Alex won't have to tote her back and forth to take me to work or be left at home with a baby and no car.
We got approved for a nice interest rate and after days of searching, found a car in our price range, mileage wants, and colour selections. Alex is going to call the bank tomorrow for some final number crunching and if all goes well, we'll be off to Kalamazoo to buy a car.
Ever since I got to be not afraid of cars I've wanted a Honda Fit, and for the past year Alex and I have been casually searching. They just aren't in our area for less than the cost of buying brand new. Buying brand new is our absolute last resort simply because when you drive it off the lot it depreciates so much in value.
So. Who in Kalamazoo wants to buy me a bagel?
Updated:
We bailed on the Kalamazoo car because Carfax stated it had been reported as a total loss, so instead we turned our attention to one in Dublin, OH (near Columbus). Carfax said it was a spiffy deal, the dealer said it was available, so we hopped in the car and drove three frickin' hours to get it. It would figure that as soon as we drove on to the lot, someone drove it off the lot.
Needless to say, we were disappointed. Then the guy suggested leasing a car, something we never even considered. Especially since no car lot, used or new, has a Honda Fit sitting on it in Toledo. In Dublin, however, they had a couple. We submitted our papers and were told our credit is so ridiculously good (old people credit, they called it), they were willing to let us just buy the car brand new with our tiny down payment meant for a cheaper vehicle, for the same monthly cost of the used 2007 we originally went to get.
Crossed the T's, dotted the I's, and drove home a new 2009 Honda Fit Sport. In red.
Naturally I was too afraid to drive it home and made Alex do it.
If I had my stupid passport, I would meet up with you in Detroit.
Stupid border crossing laws. Have crossed that border all my life and now I can't even go shopping over there.
Kalamazoo? Isn't that in Michigan?
I don't live there.
Yeah, well, neither do I. But hell if anyone actually has a Honda Fit for sale in Toledo.

Do they have anything in Toledo besides a bagel shop and a hospital?
I hate to say this, but our bagel shop closed three years ago. I was getting them from the cafe inside of the hospital but since I started working only nights I'm not there when the cafe is open.
So, alas, it's Lenders bagels for me.
the Fit is in the top 10 cars bought in the cash-for-clunkers program.
i heard the list yesterday i think it goes:
corolla
focus
civic
prius
camry
fit

You poor soul.
There's nothing like a Hot, Fresh bagel. Like the kind we get on Friday from Einstein Brothers Bagels. ;D
Fits are the frugal peoples choice of cars. Cheap cars, nice gas mileage, and they look like such happy guinea pigs.
I think spending thirty grand for an ugly little car that you have to lose twenty pounds just to squeeze in to is kind of ridiculous. They look so angry and bug-like anyway.
my friend got one, she loves!! it. they have a 13yo child but are a one-car one-bicycle family.
my daughters BFF guy got one...shes like seriously? seriously? girl has an issue with her BFF guy embracing a fit. idk... i think shes probably just jealous because shes in a 96 civic and will STAY IN HER 96 CIVIC until she finishes college haha.

Guess that's why i like my Hyundai Elantra. They're cheap, they come with a 10 year warranty and I've had no major problems with it since I bought it two years ago.
Yeah, well, you know what Howwie? I hope your fetus kicks you in the eyeball. Mine did to Alex, only it probably hurt him a little more because of my belly button ring.
Oh, hey watergirl, we're kind of opposite of your friend. My husband has a '93 Civic that was his dream car three years ago and is determined to still someday turn it in to his dream car. He was all, "Why don't you just get a 5K junker in the mean time and get your brand new fit in like, five years?" Uh.. because that's a waste of five years and I want the shiny car now?
Now he's dreaming of the new car he'll get when we pay this one off.

Yeah, well, in that case I hope you get sprayed in the eye with your own breastmilk. ;p
Bleh. Howwie, your car is too long. I like my cars to look like they've been smushed. I get so giddy whenever I see a Smart Car.
I don't like Smart Cars. But.. hey, whatever, it's your car.
i like the acuras!! but i have 227,500 miles on my 99 4runner and i get 20/25 mph. bought it 2 years old, paid it off 3 years ago.
pry...dead...fingers...
i will buy nothing but toyota or honda ever again. ok ok, or hyundai or nissan. hyundai really really wants to be the next toyota, jd powers says good things about hyundai.
i had a 86 accord with the little flipup headlights...LOVED!!!! then some jerkface in his F150 ran over me. :..(
Yeah, HAR HAR HAR, just you wait. Fathers-to-be tend to gain a few pounds throughout pregnancy. Before you know it, you'll be waddling, too.
hahahaha CD AND HK, check this out...mom my ride!!!
breastmilk in your eye!
Will have to check it out at home, Ms. H20gal
The Fit is so cute! I love it. I've had a Civic for 10 years and am quite happy with it.
And you'd have to stay on 131 for another 45 minutes if you wanted me to buy you a bagel. I live in GR. But if there's a Bagel Beanery in K'zoo you should get a bagel there. They've got yummy bagels.
I really dislike the stereotypes about moms and minivans. Actually, I dislike the stereotypes about moms and moms-to-be in general because 90% of it does not apply to me, nor will it ever. Seriously, I'm popping this thing out in like, three and a half months. I highly doubt my morning sickness is going to kick in any day now, and my urges to buy bug repellant baby wipes is still non-existant.
The day I even *think* about being in a minivan I'm offing myself.
How many times a week can I eat tilapia?
There is no limit on tilapia. Certain oily fishes and regional fishes may limited due to their risk of contamination with mercury and other substances... Read more
