I just bought a $7 dollar box of Weetabix - what's the deal with cereal prices?
I just got home from the store. Bought some regular stuff I like, didn't pay attention to prices. Just decided to open my cereal - Weetabix biscuits - and noticed the price on the box ... SEVEN DOLLARS???? OMG, what's the deal with that? I am horrified. Someone please tell me why is cereal so expensive????????

looking at your name i assume you live in NYC? i'm not sure why you're surprised then.. unless you just moved here. i live in NYC also and $7 for cereal is standard price at the grocery stores.
try buying cereal at the drug stores.. cvs, rite aid, duane reade etc as its usually cheaper.
I am not surprised cereal is expensive, per se, as I have been living in manhattan since 1996 ... but it's never been $7 a box - not for this cereal anyway - at least on the upper east where I live. And I bought it at Gristedes, that forsaken hell hole of a store, so hardly a boutique market (it's such an ick store).
I was just looking for an explanation as to WHY cereal in particular is through the roof. It's painful, LOL! Good idea regarding the drug stores, I am just so lazy and tired and work 2 blocks from where I live so like to not leave the five block radius that is my life. 10021 is a way of life! ![]()
Thanks for the explanations everyone. Cheers.
I still have to pay $4 or so per box. It just drives us NUTS!!!
I usually buy Weetabix from Meijer as it is the only cereal I eat and it is from good old United Kingdom. It costs $3.85. Then again even if it was $7 no big deal. Money means nothing when you are rich and single.
