2500 boundries?
I know that 2500 is the right number to start gaining weight but what would the 'boundries' be above and below that?
Would it matter if I ate 2430? Does it have to be right on 2500?
Some snacks etc aren't the exact calories they are meant to be ie. They are 180 instead of 200 does this really make a difference?
For a normal person, no, but for someone recovering from an eating disorder I'd be particularly vigilant and add that extra 70 kcal if you're aiming for 2500. I know for me, if I say 'OK well 2450 is fine' the next day it becomes 2430, then I think 'well that's nearer 2400 so I'll just say 2400 is my number' if you see what I mean. If anything, go for slightly over 2500 - say, 2530 just to break that 'must always be 'slightly less' attitude.
Yes it makes a difference because it's about mindset rather than a number.... and that's especially true if someone's trying to regain weight because of anorexia. Meaning that the natural temptation of the determined anorexic is going to be to undershoot in a misguided effort to feel like they're retaining control. There are all kinds of common dodges. Overestimating calories here and there. Weighing the food out to 1.75ozs instead of 2ozs but logging the calories for 2ozs. Not quite hitting the target for the day. All the time fighting just that little bit shy of wholeheartedly embracing the job in hand. Lack of commitment.
So go for 2500 and make it an honest to God 2500... if not a little more just to be on the safe side. 2500 is only the minimum, it may need to increase in the future.
I agree that is the midset and how mash said it starts the cycle of restricting more. Before you know it your back to starvation. Also I remember ip there would be people who would leave 2 bites and it was about controlling and keeping parts of the ed and they had to see they were still out of control and push past the fears.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I will try to hit 2500 exactly, it's just I am always convinced that there are more calories in something than it says on the label so I need to leave a bit of a gap in case there is. Another habit I need to break I suppose.
Id stick to the 2500 or higher, I agree with what mashed said, if you eat 50 cals less one day then that could happen again the next and so on. Sometimes I may have planned to have 200 cals for a snack but end up eating something a little less, I just make sure later on in the day to add something else in to bump me up.
I agree will all the girls, its better for repair of your body, metabolism mind set so although it hard try to eat 2500 or above h xx
2500 is generally considered a MINIMUM for female gainers. also, you are young which means higher metabolism! so you prob need MORE. also, if you are active AT ALL (this includes anything from walking to housework to going shopping even), you should eat more than 2500. I know it's hard mentally, but I have had to eat 3500 at some points to even maintain. And recently I tried eating "just" 2500 per day and lost a few pounds. So, I know it's difficult, and I struggle with the thoughts as well, but instead of a weight watchers dessert (I saw your post in the other thread), buy some full-fat ice cream! 2 scoops of that will put you well over 2500 and will be quite delicious! Why delay the process?
Thanks so much for the advice everyone, I am really going to try hard to push for 2500. I will add up my calories for the day in the evening and add in an extra snack if I am under.
I definatly couldn't do it without the reassurance from this site, when I'm struggling it always gets me back on track.
