does your bra fit you right? (for women :) )

Quote  |  Reply
This is a little strange to ask.  Do you women find that finding a bra that fits right difficult?

My problem is if I find a bra that I feel like fits me, the shoulder straps are never tight enough, even when I adjust the straps to the smallest possible.  I wear a size D, I've always had bigger boobs even when I was smaller and I've always had this problem.

I can find bras that fit right in the shoulders but I feel like I have 2 sets of boobs instead of 1 lol.  They smash the top of my boob out of the bra.  Plus on the ones that fit the shoulder right, I feel like my bra is cutting me in half on the part that goes around your upper ribs.

Anyone else have the same problem?  Know of any good bras to try?  I am short so I assume maybe this has something to do with it?

*Sorry to be so graphic in explaining this lol.

Have you ever gotten a bra fitting?  Victoria Secret actually has really high quality bras, and they do fittings (you don't have to be naked or anything).

You may also consider going up a cup size and down a band size, a lot of women find this more comfortable.  Also why are you buying bras that hurt or don't fit well!  Keep trying them on until you find something that feels right, don't just buy it because it's the right size. =)
I agree, the best thing to do is get a proper bra fitting.

Or you could use this site ...

:)
I posted this a few days ago under "get an instant lift"

GET FITTED!  I was wearing a 38 DD and turns out the right size was 36FF....I was pretty upset except lo and behold I actually have a waist and ONE pair of breasts with the right size bra.  It's really expensive but SO worth it.

PS VS doesn't carry any extended sizes.  bastards.
I second what nocturne (edited: and rach1) said... Get a fitting.

My daughter and I both had fittings, at Victoria Secret ... I was suprised to find out how wrong we had been in our sizings.

I think most department stores do fittings, too. (not sure if they have you take your clothes off).
I 2nd the Victorias secret recommendation.  I am flat chested - the one thing I liked about being fat was being able to fill a B cup but bra makers seem to think if you are a 38 band you have to be at least a C cup -- I can't fill a B on a  good day  However I can get a VS 38 B in their "Angels" line that actually make me look like I fill it.  I've tried those nearly A bras and padded stuff but as soon as you wash them they lose their shape and look lumpy and gross- even if you handwash and hang dry.

When I was really heavy and had to wear a 44 band I usually got a size 40 and bra extenders  because if you think finding a 38 B is hard try finding a 44 less than a D!
I've never had a fitting. I think I'll try that, I dont live close to Victoria Secret.  I usually get all my lotions and perfumes from there, so I could get fitted when I go to stock up on those. I also didnt realize you didnt have to be naked :).

I have gotten to where I dont even try them on anymore when I buy a bra, because the ones I have tried on in the past never fit right anyway.  It would be so nice to find some that I really like and that fit well.  I'm on a mission now hah, going to try the going up a cup size and down band size.
I agree, every woman deserves to be able to buy a high quality bra (and sexy too).  I think they should reconsider making bigger sizes available.

Yeah they just make you hold your arms up to get the measuring tape under your arms them measure across your chest, do a little math in their heads, then let you know what size you are.   It takes like less than 10 seconds.
Try this site.  It should help.
Spoiled candy beat me to it -- but I was going to recommend Figleaves also

I found out about that place too late after my trouble.

I personally wouldn't go to be fitted at Victoria's Secret. They fitted me and told me I was a 36B. The cups were squishing me and the band was hanging off ... so I went to Nordstrom and they told me I was a 34D. Then I went back to VS and bought IPEX in 34D which fits marvelously (though now I have lost weight so should be refitted).

I wouldn't go to Victoria's Secret as the staff turnover can be quite high and often the staff really could care less (at my branches anyway).

At a specialty lingerie fitting shop or at Nordstrom (they specialize in this stuff) they will likely do a better job. It's JMHO.

Also check out this link from Oprah's site, it's really helpful:

I went to Nordstrom's to be fitted; they were great. I'd been buying too big a band, too small a cup. My boobs are finally getting the support they need, woo-hoo!
Thanks for the advice girls!  I'm in Arkansas......no Nordstrom anywhere around here hah!

I liked that website posted earlier.  I think I'll order a few of those after I get fitted.  Thanks guys.
How do you go about asking a department store to fit you for a bra?

"Hello, mid-50's man standing at the service counter. I was wondering, when you're done putting price tags on those shoes, could you tell me how I can get fitted for a bra?"

Seems awkward.
Another great site for larger size bras ...

Ample Bosom.

Yes, that's right.  Ample Bosom.  They don't mess around with euphamistic site names.      :-)

The pics on there are less than wonderful, and they can be a little pricey, but they have just about every (larger) size.
:( the link doesn't work. I really wanted to see this ample bosom.  And I'm a little afraid to type in amplebosom.com.
How do you go about asking a department store to fit you for a bra?

Go to the lingerie department and ask the assistant there. It will inevitably be a woman. If it's a man, ask if you can speak to a female associate. At Nordstrom they are all about customer service, impecable service. It won't be a problem, you will have someone helping you in about 2 seconds flat.
I don't think I've ever seen a man working in the lingerie department....

Two great brands for you ample bosom'd lasses are Fantasie and Freya (at least those are the ones I personally like best).  They make really pretty bras, not something your overweight 80 year old grandmother would wear.  Though spendy, I will say.
Nordstrom and Dillards do fittings and carry a wider array of sizes than Victoria's Secret. As a large breasted woman, I can tell you that VS's bra sizes do not coordinate to the bra sizes of other brands -- they run small, so you might wear a 34C at VS and a 36B in most department store brands. Just an FYI. It's generally shocking to discover what size bra you ACTUALLY should wear and the difference it makes in your overall appearance.
Here is a fitting guide from Nordstroms. I think I will go get remeasured soon as I have a feeling since losing weight I am totally in the wrong size. Also it's a pity as I spent a fortune on IPEX bras just before I decided to lose all the weight, some I haven't even worn yet *sighs*

hmm is it just me or would anyone else be embarassed to go into Victorias secret and ask for a bra fitting?

especially if they didnt do it at that particular one and then you would look like a fool :(
