Braces
Well, I am 21 years old and I'm thinking about getting braces. I have huge bucked teeth and I'm tired of looking like bugs bunny!! My bottom teeth are also pretty twisted. I'm just wondering if anybody has had braces at an older age and how they dealt with it. I'm worried I'm gonna look like a 15 yr old and that people are going to treat me like a teenager again.

Lots of people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s have braces. I'd say don't worry about it.
*looks at librory and laughs* Ha, Ha! ;p Brace Face! ;p
There, it's over. Kinda stupid, isn't it? Especially when you're making a conscious choice to do this for yourself.
Throughout our life, we're offered chances to do something potentially uncool that will be good for us long term. You should never let popularity decide what is and isn't best for you.
Good for you for making a potentially sensitive choice for yourself. You should be proud.
And if anyone DOES mock you for being a brace face, just remind yourself why you're doing this, and how fabulous you'll look when they come off! ;)

Actually, braces are now seen as cool.... where you been, HK?!?! :-)
Are they?
Cool. Even better.
I don't nothing about what's cool. :) I don't listen to cool music, much. I don't watch cool movies, much. I definately don't watch cool TV.
I'm a rebel without a clue. ;)

They have clear braces now.....just a thought:)
:-D
Yeah, braces are cool. Some kids actually beg their parents for them when others in their class start getting them!
The braces used on most kids these days have little rubber bands, one per tooth, for aesthetic reasons. (It's perfectly okay not to have these bands, in other words.) These little rubber bands come in LOTS of colors, and kids can pick which ones they want and can change them every six weeks (or however often they go in for an adjustment). If they want to alternate red and green bands for Christmas, they can! Red, white, and blue for the period between Flag Day and Independence Day, black and orange for Halloween, bright lime green just for grins, etc and so on.
My kid nearly always picks silver.....

I'd kill for braces. I don't care what people think, I want them so bad. Unfortunately, my situation isn't the easiest to get braces.
Get em if you want...nobody will make fun of you. I mean...tom cruise had braces last year or so, right?

Yea, I think I will get them, but I'm gonna have to wait a few years until I'm financially able to get them! Also, I have heard of the clear invisalign but I've heard those are twice as expensive!
I wore braces when I was 14 up untill I was almost 18... 4 years! And throughout the whole experience I don't think I received a negative comment from anyone at all. Now my teeth are perfectly straight and it was so worth those four years of achey teeth. And braces are kinda cool nowadays anywho, geek chic and all that.
Werd, braces are a lot better than crooked teeth. I say if you can get them without need any kind of weird surgery (like myself), then go for it. You can get them on a payment plan, ya know :)
yea i know but I'm still paying for my surgery on a payment plan
I had braces in H.S and I would not have changed it for the world!
I usually had blue or red bands... It hurts, but THEY ARE MOVING YOUR TEETH... I say do it do it do it!

I just got my braces off 3 months ago after 3 1/2 years!! I am 34 years old!! I would highly recommend it. You can usually get free quotes from different dentists and otho only places. The standard braces are for the more difficult cases like mine, the clear braces can also be used but cost more. The invisiline are for cases that are fairly easy like to help with people that had braces but stopped using their retainers. The down side is the older you get the longer it takes to move your teeth and if you do not continue to were your retainers your teeth will start to move back. I forgot to wear my retainer for a couple of nights (only wear when sleeping) and when I put them in I could tell my teeth had moved a little.
Most people will respect if not inquire about them far more than look at you funny. My oldest daughter and I had braces on at the same time and it made it easier on her because we could talk about the good days and the painfull days.
GO FOR IT.!!!!!

I am 29 and I will be getting braces sometime in the next year.. Just go for it, get it over and done with, the longer you put it off the worse your teeth will get and the longer you will have to keep them on.. My dentist told me that if I would have gotten them years ago it would have changed my wear time drastically.. The only reason I need to wait is b/c I have other dental work I need to do before.. (I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled and get a few cavitites filled)
I also have a HUGE cavity I have to get filled. Well, I've had it filled before but the filling chipped off.
