Can i Brag... 'cause i just ran 20 miles!!!! :D
HEEHEE! i am soo so stoked on this. i am training for the SF marathon, my first one, and today just completed an extremely hilly 20 mile run in 3 hours! it felt so amazing after, i am sorry if this is too narcicistic, but i am so proud because just two years ago my own dad said i had too fat of thighs to ever be a runner, i guess not. ugh, sorry for the rant, anyways, i will get off of my high horse now.
yyayyyy congrats!!
thanks kirsty!
stay on that high horse a lil longer because you must've put in a tonne of effort and you've succeeded! 20 miles... I don't even dream of that :O great work!
AMAZINGLY AWESOME ACHIEVEMENT!! What a great feeling!
First of all, that's AMAZING! Congratulations! You will do awesome in the marathon.
Second, please don't ever listen to your dad's criticism again. Clearly, he doesn't have a clue, cuz you can do whatever you put your mind to.
Yeeeaauuzzzz! Stay on your horse! You are inspiring others to great things. Congrats!!
OMG that is so awesome!!! I would have fallen over before the end of mile 1, you go girl!
Thank you so much everyone. it feels really good to hear those words. especially about my dad!
does anyone else have a recent fitness achievment?
It took me 4:15 minutes to do my first 20 mile run. I was going round and round Stone Mountain, GA, but that doesn't matter. You rock!!
THat is so amazing. Are you training for a marathon too? or are you a life-long runner?
Oh wow congratulations!! That's awesome!! You're gonna kick butt in the SF marathon!!! I'm training for my first marathon, too, but it's not till October. 20 miles sounds so intimidating to me right now. keep it up :)
THanks, yeah, the double digit numbers were pretty intimidating to me too. where is your marathon going to be?
That is awesome, congrats!!! My best friend is running her first marathon this Saturday and did her 20 mile run a couple of weeks ago ... what an achievement. She is trying to talk me into running one in October ...... we will see! :)
My marathon is the Marine Corp one in late October...it's in Washington, DC, where I go to school!! I'm excited but nervous too.
How long do the runs need to be before you start using the gel?
nice job
3 hours!!?! Wow, it takes me 1 hour to run 3 miles so I can't imagine running as fast as you for 20 whole miles! Good grief, I have my work cut out for me don't I? UGH!
Great job, anyway!!! Don't be too hard on your Dad. Parents say some pretty stupid things sometimes. He probably didn't mean it... BUT if he did mean to hurt your feelings, make sure he's among the first to know about your awesome accomplishment! lol
Thankyou shanah, that is really thoughtful and true. i told him about the run, but it did not phase him, but this too shall pass, right?
And for the runs, i have a seriously sensitive gut, so what i have done is: a major carb load the day before, minimal protein and fat, no exercise past 4pm the day before, then eat 3 hours before the run, again loading up on carbs, and on the 20 miler i did not eat and felt totally fine, great actually. then right when i got back home, about an hour later, i ate a light snack with protein and carbs and then of course had a nice BIG dinner. Hope this was helpful! :D
Ahhhh, blondi, validation from our parents can be important, but in the end, it is our own opinion of ourselves that truly matters.
I am not training for a marathon at the moment. I would like to do one late this year or early next year. Right now, my focus is getting ready for a half Ironman in Augusta GA in September. It has a half marathon at the end.
I read your last comment with interest. It is unlikely that you will be able to finish the full 26.2 miles without taking in something during your race, and if you have a sensitive stomach, you should be practicing on all your long runs. I don't know how much you weigh, but in general, you want to take in 100-200 calories per hour. This will help you push back the proverbial wall that marathoners often encounter past 18 miles.
Good luck! Let us know how you do ![]()
No need to get off your high horse. Running your first 20 miler is a HUGE achievement--I have very fond memories of my first 20 mile run. Congratulations, and good luck with the rest of your training!
That's a great pace even without the hills. Congrats!
