what brand makes the 35 cal bread??
All bread contains roughly the same calories per 100g.... Some brands (Weightwatchers and do they still make Slimcea?) add extra air to their mix, make smaller loaves and cut the slices mega-thin. So the slices are only half the normal weight... and therefore 35 cals a pop. You could buy small uncut loaves and slice them really thinly to get exactly the same net effect.
'Healthy Life' makes a 35 calorie bread, but honestly I'd rather have the real thing since it sort of tastes... off. There's just nothing like real fresh-baked bread.
oh it tastes weird??
bummer.
I eat "Double Fiber" bread from uhm.. crap.. I can't remember who makes it, I just pick it up.
It's only 40 cals a slice, may take a little time to get used to, but I love it. Makes great sandwiches, toast, grilled cheese, everything.
edit: derp, here it is:

I eat the Healthy Life wheat bread and it tastes just fine to me. Obviously it's not going to taste like home-made bread, but no store bought bread is going to do that. I eat it every morning as toast and sometimes, usually week-ends, I make sandwiches with it. I like it much better then the Pepperidge Farms 40 calorie bread which is paper thin.
I use Country Kitchen light oatmeal, but they also have a light italian and also a light wheat. They're very good, I don't think they taste funny, the slices are smaller than most other bread, but it fills me up!
yay!
glad to hear all of that thank you!
I buy Nickle's or Schwabel's light wheat breads that are 35 cal per slice. Both are made with actual wheat flour, not enriched white flour like some light wheat breads use. I'm not sure though if you can find those brands nationally. I know that here in Ohio you can get them. I think both makes large, thick, wonderful slices!
Sara Lee and Oroweat both make 45 cal breads. I use them both, and they taste good! Makes a regular sized sandwich, and are not paper thin.
I do Natures Own Light Honey Wheat. It has 40 cals per slice and tastes fine to me. They also make a light white bread that has 40 cals.
Village Hearth has a 40 calorie bread. It tastes good, but I prefer to get a whole grain bread that has more calories.
Peperidge Farms makes a light bread that 45 calories a slice and has a crap load of fiber. I am on high fiber kick so I am def. a fan!
I've noticed that the Healthy Life bread has a slight off-flavor, too. I don't think it's the flour, because it tastes different from other brands using the same flour. Maybe it's the high % fiber, or the type of fiber they're adding. The old Hollywood bread brand used to use cellulose fiber derived from wood pulp, which probably has a different flavor from bran fiber.
After it's toasted it tastes fine. I use it as a vehicle for eating PB or fruit preserves. The less calories in the bread, the more of the good stuff I can put on for the same calories in my snack.
Country Kitchen Light Breads contain 35-40 cals a slice depending on what kind you get (light white, light wheat, light whole grain, etc.)

LOL.
Sarah Lee makes a 45 calorie bread that I think is absolutely delicious! I love it!
Aunt millies light whole grain is 35 calories per slice.
Is any of this bread cheap?
I searched three of my local stores (including Ralphs, Albertsons, and Trader Joe's) and could only find the Sara Lee brand for 4.99 per loaf (or something near that).
Bread is a luxury item on my budget, and I can't pay more than 1.99- 2.49 per loaf to be honest. I want to keep looking for this bread, but it's not worth all the hunting if it ends up being too expensive for me once I find it. :(

HOLY COW!!!! It isn't near that expensive here! I understand why you wouldn't spend five bucks on a loaf of bread! What if you just switched to a whole grain bread that was healthier than the uber processed white bread and build the calories into your day? I mean, really, how big of a difference is 20 or 30 calories for a slice of bread going to make if you buy 45 calorie diet bread versus 75 calorie whole grain bread?
jessrene: I know, right? Way too much. I really dislike whole grain bread, and I couldn't care less about "healthier bread". I just want a bread that is 35 instead of 70 calories so that I can eat 2 sandwiches instead of one. :D
I'll eat whole-wheat stuff if I HAVE to, but I'd prefer a low-cal white bread. The more processed and refined and bleached, the better. Mmmm...
