I have a constant struggle of locating a bread I like and is at least sort of healthy. While I do enjoy baking, I just don't have the time to do it every week. Plus, all I want to do is slather fresh bread in butter, haha, which doesn't help.
I am probably one of the least picky eaters ever, but I just don't like whole wheat and most whole grain breads. I've tried a bunch of different kinds, made it myself, etc. It's just not happening and I am ok with that. Im not so much a fan of rye, pumpernickle, etc for frequent use.
I like Wonder Breads white whole grain, but it has HFCS in it. Yuck.
I really just want a good bread that I can use for sandwiches or toast and actually enjoy the taste. I hate looking at labels and seeing things I can't pronounce. There has to be something better out there. Calories aren't so much an issue, I just want to find something I like.
What brands/kind of bread are your faves?
There's nothing wrong with good quality white bread. If you want to avoid the nasties that end up in it when it's baked commercially you could make your own with a bread-machine. That's how I do it.
You can always bake enough bread to last a few weeks and then freeze some bread so you don't have to do it every week.
I don't have a bread machine sadly, but I buy Ezekial bread which is in the frozen section of the store. They are organic and don't have any artificial ingredients or preservatives. I think their name brand is called "food for life" and they probably have a white bread version.
Go for Nature Owns White Wheat Bread. It's great! No HFCS(Even says that straight on the bag :]) and it has all the health benefits of whole wheat bread. Check it out here! :D http://www.whitewheat.com/ It's the best thing sence sliced.........Nature owns bread xD Ahah. It also has 5 grams of fiber so it should keep you full and only 110 calories for 2 slices. I highly suggest you pick some up. :D
I like Healthy Choice. It's only 35 calories per slice and it comes in both wheat and white, but it can be hard to find. Wal-Mart only carries the wheat, but I've found the white in Food Lion if you have one of those in your area. A couple of the locally owned stores around here have it too but the store I shope a most often doesn't have it so I usually get it on the way home from the gym at Food Lion.
perhaps try a local bakery?? they'll have a lot of choice, and their white bread should contain a lot less 'ingredients'.
Sheepherder's!
I would suggest checking out your local farmer's market. The bread sellers at mine have the most exquisite and wonderful loaves available every week, you're sure to find something that suits your fancy! My lady lists all of the ingredients as well, which is nice. They are all natural, as is common at farmer's markets.
My favorite is the sunflower flax loaf. SOOOO good.
I may be the Lone Stranger on this but I have fallen in love with eating "D'Italiano 40-calorie-a-slice bread. I love everything about it except the price.
I've been eating Alvarado Street Bakery's "Essential Flax Seed bread" ... The ingredients are solid, and it's 50 cals a slice. I found it back by the deli counter at my grocery store, kind of randomly. I was looking for more whole grains because I had been eating Wonder Bread's light wheat bread. I didn't notice how sweet that was until I tried the flax seed bread... This stuff's a lot heartier though, and I like it!
Arnolds Sandwich Thins are great! I've only eaten the multi-grain kind and it's high fiber, no HFCS and it's delish. I got all of my co-workers addicted to it so now pretty much all the women in my office eat it too :).

Thanks, Ive heard of the Ezekial brand but never really gave it a second look. I will the next time I see it!
As I said, I have no interest in baking my own bread.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep an eye out for some of the brands mentioned!
Nature's Own Double Fiber WW bread is really good and it's only 50 cals a slice. It has no HFCS, 5g of fiber per slice, and Omega-3's. I think it is pretty dense tasting too for only being 50 cals. A lot of the diet breads that are 40 cals a slice taste really airy to me. Hope this helps!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
