Is it okay to break between exersises/walks?
Hi ya, I've begun walking quite a bit lately. I go at night but in the day I've only just picked up the treadmill... and while walking outside in normal weather has really upped my stamina my treadmill walking starts to slow up a bit. I can run 7 minutes at the moment and then I have to take a 'breathing' break. My feet don't hurt its just I get too out of breath to continue.
Is it okay to get on and off the treadmill for small water breaks and a breather?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Fitness forum
Yes, of course you should take a break if you're out of breath. But some advice my cross country coach gave me a long time ago was: instead of walking to get your water, you should try to jog slowly. Your body can tell the difference between the motions of walking and jogging, even at the same rate. You'll recuperate more slowly, but you'll still be in the running motion.
if you are out of breath you should slow down for a little while, like the previous post suggests, don't just stop dead but continue to move. Just in case you wanted to know part of the reason you get out of breath while running is the body is producing lactic acid as a byproduct of energy production. The lactic acid builds in the muscle tissue and the body can shed some of that acid through respiration.... interesting and also is a way to tell our bodies to slow down or we will be horribly sore cause lactic acid loves to tear up muscle tissue... nasty little buggers.
okay, thank you both very much.
If you need a break, take a break! Actually due to Drs orders I can't be at the gym as long as I like, so I gotta make multiple short trips if I want all my time. The girl at the check-in desk looks at me a little weird, but I'm getting my sweat on. Today I plan to get in 4 trips for a little over a half hour each.
