how do i break it to my parents
I want to start weight training but i don't know how to tell my parents. It would just seem to awkward.
hm, i don't see why it would be awkward (maybe i'm missing something?). i'd just tell them you want to get more in shape and healthier. i'm sure they'd appreciate that.
i kinda get how it could be awkward to talk to your parents about weight training if it's something that seems very far from what you would normally do. i think you should do it, though.. i mean, you are taking a step into a healthy, active lifestyle and they should support you and have no problem with it. in the conversation, you're probably going to be the only one who feels awkward, but they won't.
... why do you have to tell them?
If it's really gonna be an awkward conversation for you, my vote is to just not have it. I mean, unless it's necessary for some reason.
I had the same problem. It NEVER got resolved until my mom decided we should both join a gym.
when you say you want to start doing weight training, do you mean at home, your school gym, a real gym? I agree with starcrossdlovex, if its not necessary to tell them, don't.
i know how awkward it can be because i was embarrassed to tell my parents that i felt fat and thought they would treat me like baby.
but actually it helps if you tell them because they want to help you and they dont want to know that they're child is upset with themselves. Just ask her to buy you a set of hand weights if you're just starting because you could do SOOOOO many things with them.
Your previous posts imply that you live with your parents, which is why you probably need to tell them.
Remember, it's nothing to be embarrassed about. Tell them you want to get stronger and more toned. These are good things to be! You will look way better than you do now if you get some muscles on you.
Obligatory weight training advice follows:
Remember, if you want to see any gains in muscle, you have to eat appropriately (enough calories, lots of protein, etc.).
The resistance bands are OK to start with, I guess, but when you get bored, switch to dumbbells. You won't see the kinds of gains you want unless you lift heavy (for you!) weights. For that, you'll probably want to get a good set of dumbbells, with weights between 5-20lb to start.
I'm 5'2, been lifting for six months, and I'm mostly using dumbbells between 15-35lb, depending on the exercise. Starting out, depending on how weak you are, you might want to start at lighter weights (5-15lb), doing 8-12 reps per set, 2-4 sets per exercise, resting 1-3 minutes between sets. If you can do more than 12 reps per set, switch to a higher weight until you really start to feel challenged.
Obviously, as you advance, you can make things as complicated as you want, but its really easy to get started, and see some changes.
if its really awkward for you, maybe just get a job if you dont already have one and pay for the 1 or 2 sessions with a trainer to get you started. then you can get your own weights and try it on your own or maybe just ask your family if you can join at a gym? hope this helped
