no breakfast, no binging
Let me say in advance that this is just something I've noticed, not something I'm suggesting is a good idea or anything.
I binged today after 10 days of normal eating. I looked back and pondered for a while about what may be the cause of my binges. Then I realized that for the past week or so I haven't eaten breakfast because I'd wake up late so just wait for lunch instead. Today, I did have breakfast. And binged too. It wasn't that I got hungry, or that I had a craving - I didn't at all. I wasn't the slightest bit hungry but I just attacked the food and binged, only an hour or so after breakfast, and continued binging for another hour. Then an hour after that, still had a normal lunch. You can imagine the pain I'm in now (I guess I deserve this now, stupid me for binging)
Now I'm not saying that it's breakfast that causes me to binge, because I totally am a breakfast person and understand how important it is, but something's gotta be connected. Maybe I'm not good at eating with a schedule (breakfast at certain time, lunchtime, specific dinner time, etc), or maybe I just really need to wait untill I'm hungry to eat, even if that means waiting an extra few hours after waking up. Maybe that gap time between breakfast and lunch is very unproductive for me. I don't know. But somehow I want to turn this into a step forward in stopping my binging.
I really want to stop. And unfortunately, it should be as simple as physically stopping putting food into my mouth, but it doesnt seem to be that simple.
So, I guess I'm wondering. How would you interpret something like this? Has anyone else realized a wierd connection to their binging that they cant quite place?
I find that sometimes once I start I can't stop! So like maybe you had breakfast, that "awoke" some kind of urge in you, like "OMG FOOD IS AMAZING!!" type thing and you just wanted more!
Dunno if that makes sense but I find that if I give myself an inch I end up taking a mile. So, do eat breakfast but try and get into the habit of eating it every day then really watching yourself. If you don't eat it for ages then suddenly do it feels naughty and then you kinda say "Oh well, may as well go mad now"
I find that if I eat empty carbs for breakfast, like a bagel or a bowl of cereal, It's as if it flicks a switch inside me to just keep on going. So now I eat oatmeal with fruit or eggbeates with veggies and a good whole grain toast.

i am the exact same way. im never hungry in the mornings but i always end up binging. ill grab some cereal and i cant stop. before i know it the box is gone.
i tried getting rid of cereal thinking that was the cause..but no. i had 2 waffles and still craved more.
this morning binge leads to me feeling guilty and not eating a big lunch...and then i go home and binge again later in the day.
i feel helpless. i have no control over my cravings.
Don't waste another minute beating yourself up over this. Don't overanalyze it, either. Sometimes, the only answer is the simplest one: we eat too much of some foods because that's how we are wired.
I have never cared much for schedules and menu planning but in my old age I realize how much less anxiety I will experience by scheduling my meals and planning what food I'll eat for the day. This saves me from two pests: hurry and indecision. Waiting until we are hungry is a huge trap because then we are ravenous and the easiest, quickest food is what we go after and that food is usually not the healthiest choice or we eat too much of it. After eating breakfast I prepare my lunch. When lunch comes there's my food ready and waiting for me. Faster than carry out or delivery, and I know what's in the food. After I eat lunch I prepare dinner. I have sectioned food storage containers I bought at the dollar store and one of these days I'm going to figure out how to plan and prepare a day's worth of meals the night before.
The other good thing about planning your meals and writing them down is that you can chart what you ate on the days you had a craving that led to a binge. Then you can identify the problem foods and avoid them. I've decided there are some foods that I just have to make up my mind to avoid, probably forever and that's okay because there is plenty of food left in the sea -- food is like buses, another ones comes by in 15 min....oh, wait, that's men.
