Breakfast

Quote  |  Reply

Okay guys

I need breakfast ideas that will keep me full with lots of energy to set me up for the day - I'm sick to the back teeth of eggs and oatmeal, so anything but that please!

Recently I've been having a green smoothie + a bowl of cereal, but then about 15 minutes later I'm already peckish and need a peice of toast too. Then within a couple of hours I'm hungry again, plus find I get hungrier later in the day when after eggs I'm not...but seriously I can't stand eggs anymore!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank

What kind of cereal are you eating?  I usually try and find one that has a good amount of protein and fiber and pair it with a piece of fruit (Example Kashi golean).  A lot of cereals out there are just sugar and carbs and nothing else so they don't help much when it comes to feeling full.  I also make sure I drink atleast 2 glasses of water in the AM to hydrate my body.

What I eat as a treat type breakfast is french toast using egg whites and skim milk, cinnamon, and wheat bread and microwave some frozen fruit ontop so you don't even need syrup.

Yeah, try mixing some good protein-packed yogurt (I like vanilla) with Kashi GOLEAN!Crunch.  Lasts me a few hours.

And then throw in an apple or something, too, for some more fiber and nutrients.

The combination of protein and fiber is what keeps you full.

Kashi GOLEAN! Crunch - interesting...do you know if its available in the UK? I'll check it out.

I usually eat something like weetabix miniatures or cocco-pops.

Does all yogurt have lots of protein or do I need to check out for specific types?

Thank you!

Pumkin pie. Seriously. Without the crust, and using 2% condensed milk it's pretty healthy. Has tons of protein, and tasty. :)

My Recipe:

15 oz of Libby's pumkin puree (not the pie mix)

1 can of 2% condensed Nestle milk

Half a cup of egg beaters (60 calories)

4 packets of Stevia.

20 grams of raw cane sugar

Spices.

Total around 600 calories, so for me makes two servings. I use a bit of fat free whipping cream. Last time I made it, it wasn't as sweet as store one, so I might increase ammount of sugar and make it in to three servings. It had a bit too much protein per serving anyway.

Ammount of protein in yogurt depends on brand and type. Generally Greek yogurt has highest ammount.

how about an omelette?  still eggs i know, but it'll keep you fuller cuz of the veggies and it states different.  with a piece of toast.

OR (non-egg options):

i LOVE granola with plain yogurt (i love the sweet and tart combo).  add some fresh fruit (my faves are: strawberry, bluebrry, pineapple) and it's deciously healthy!

bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon

you can do something brunchier, like a sandwich/panini for breakfast once in a while (like tomato, spinach and swiss)

some people like cottage cheese, pineapple and some cinnamon.  i hate cottage cheese so i can't do this, but if you like it, try it!  with toast on the side.

i also like my quasi egg-mcmuffins: english muffin, slice of cheese (i like swiss or jalsberg, but you can use regular ol' kraft orange cheese if you like it), egg (AH!, they keep coming up cuz they're so breakfasty, sorry!), and some veggie salami (lower fat than regular meat).

Oooh I forgot about bagels! I used to eat them all the time and they kept me full for ages

Thanks v. much guys, will try these suggestion

i HAVE to have protien in the morning or there's no way i can make it thru the day. also you didn't mention what type of oatmeal you've been eating, but if you've not had steel cut oats i suggest giving them a try.

This keeps me full for freaking ever, and it is so delicious and extremely healthy.  I have two versions of it:

Cottage cheese concoction: banana version:

-1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
-1/4 cup fat free milk
-1/4 cup sliced bananas
-1/4 cup bran flakes
-2 packets of splenda
-1 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
-dash of vanilla extract

Pumpkin version:

-1/2 cup lf cottage cheese
-1/4 cup fat free milk
-1/4 cup canned pumpkin
-1 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
-1/4 cup bran flakes
-2 packets splenda
-cinnamon and allspice to taste (or you could use pumpkin pie spice.)
-dash of vanilla extract

Mix them up really well and either one is like a bowl of cereal with a serious upgrade.  It is so full of protein and fiber it keeps you full for hours.  Plus you could do your own variations using whatever fruits and nuts and stuff that you like.

Granola mixed into Fage yogurt and on the side, warm apple slices (mix with cinnamon or ginger and sprinkle with splenda or stevia). Even better if you can eat the apple slices a bit later as a mid-morning snack.

Grapefruit, cottage cheese and a whole grain english muffin, like Thomas' light, plain or with light whipped cream cheese.

Whole grain rice topped with cinnamon and maple syrup/honey/stevia, pan cooked turkey breast and a pear.

Quinoa mixed with vanilla protein powder and pumpkin, blueberries or freeze dried acai.

I also ALWAYS have a large thermos of warm tea, usually add a couple cloves, some ginger slices, and stevia.

Greek yogurt with splenda and cinnamon

Tofu spinach onions and mushrooms w/ hot sauce

Fat free cream cheese and whole wheat crackers

Kinda random choices I know but their great for protein!

A lot of yogurt has protein in it.  Try greek yogurt - it's super thick and creamy and is loaded with protein!  For Oikos, 1 cup of fat free has 130 calories and 22 grams of protein.  Mix it with some preserves or honey and you're good to go. :D

Stay away from "processed" yogurt, like GoGurt or something.  It's really not very good for you.

I'm not sure if Kashi's GOLEAN line is available in the UK.  There're actually several differnent GOLEAN products - but I recommend the crunchy kind because it's so darn good!

Kashi.com may have what you're looking for.

Sometimes I like to have an avacado with salsa in the morning.  That fills me up for hours.  And thanks for this question and everyone who replied, I think I now know what to have for breakfast for weeks!

2 pancakes, half a banana, & a glass of milk. Mmm :)

my advice is to find thing you love and mix and match days.

I eat toast with cream cheese and strawberry preserved Mondays and Fridays, Eggs with a mini bagel and either a piece of ham, bacon or link sausage on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday then i have milk cereal and yogurt on Saturday and Sunday. trust me i never get tired and i look forward to fave days.

Today I am trying something a lil different.  I added peanut butter to my oatmeal and it tastes pretty good.  I only used 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and my normal amount of oatmeal and I am going to c how statisfying it is and how long I can go without feeling hungry.  Lets c

MmM i just bought these weight waters double chocolate chip muffins...only 3 pts! and only 180 calories...i think like 2.5 g of fat.

Not bad for  apretty good sized muffin...its also delicious! i eat those in the A.M. or a bowl of total cinnamon cereal.

What about a breakfast burrito? Get some low-fat refried beans, (or make them yourself so they're not packed with salt), and some whole grain wraps, and melt some cheese on the beans. You can even throw some egg or meat in there if you'd like (assuming you're not vegetarian). Nothing says you can't eat some chicken or left-over beef with breakfast if the protein is what keeps you full during the day.

I have another cottage cheese concoction to suggest:

Cottage cheese with pineapple (or whatever fruit you prefer), a handful of cheerios, and some raisins. Delicious!

I'm planning on eating yoguhurt with banana for the next few days... will maybe have to add some oats if I find myself really hungry.

I am a bit weird in that I sometimes eat lunch/dinner food for breakfast, because earlier in the day I'm always ravenous! So I sometimes eat a chicken/tofu and vege stifry. Keeps me full, is healthy and has the magical protein + fiber combo!

I don't think Kashi is avaiable in the UK. I got hooked on it in the states and now i'm back home there is none. This makes me sad. It costs alot to get it shipped over.

To the OP, weetabix miniatures never fill me up - they are pretty sugary and I think thats something to do with it. Same for cocoa pops. Fruit and fibre cereal is dull as hell but very good for you and filling :D Add some nuts to the bowl as well and its a good breakfast.

Peanut butter sandwiches are one of my favourite beakfast stand bys, with fruit.
