My usual breakfast consists of a serving of oatmeal zapped in the microwave with skim milk, a little vanilla extract, and a banana. I top it off with a 20 oz Coffee with skim milk. This rounds out to about 350 calories and has virtually no fat.
The problem is that I find myself really hungry within an hour or two after breakfast, so I'm thinking about replacing the skim milk with 2% and adding a tbsp of butter and brown sugar to my oats. This will add substantially more calories and fat, but if it were to keep me full and energized longer then I would be willing to make the compromise.
I feel like an idiot for asking, but will the added calories/fat keep me feeling full, or will they just become empty calories and turn into fat?
Thanks in advance!
Sean
For me, fat usually make me satisfied......not much of the feeling of full. But I think eating protein will make me feel full. Try replace your something with eggs. Milk doesn't really work with my fullness, though. For me, it has to be something like fish, egg, chicken. Now that would make me feel full. :)
Hope this helps!
what will really keep you satisfied is protein!!
I eat oatmeal all the time and it keeps me super satisfied.
I usually cook it with water, and then I might add
1. 1 scoop of whey protien powder
2. PB2 (defatted peanuts) and 1/2 a banana
3. chopped up seeds/nuts/dried fruits. --
Plus, the fats you are talking about adding are not "healthy fats" they are saturated fats. Try the chopped nuts option to add some good fats in there, and protein as well.
i love making my oatmeal with peanut butter and a banana. one tablespoon of peanut butter is about the same amount of calories as regular butter, but it's healthy fat and also adds some protein.
Oddly enough, low-fat meals don`t keep me going that long either, no matter how many complex carbs and protein-rich foods I shovel down. I second morganbclaw, try adding good fats in the form of nuts/seeds - betcha they would go heavenly with that banana!
instead of adding unhealthy fats like butter to your oatmeal, i think you should try adding some good sources of healthy fat and/or protein, like:
- nut butters (peanut butter, almond butter, etc).
- protein powder.
- eggs/egg whites.
- nuts/seeds (pumpkin seeds, peanuts, almonds, etc).
- cereal (fiber 1, kashi, etc).
I would definately try to get some protein and/or some healthy fats in their. Use eggs or maybe some peanut butter. You can also try whey protein powder in your oatmeal. I would also try yogurt or cottage cheese maybe
Idea for you: How about you make your oatmeal with hot water & cinnamon (saving calories from the milk) & instead using them on two over easy, hard boiled, sunny side, whatever you like, Eggs (which gives you a nice amount of protein & healthy fat) & you can still keep your coffee.
This meal could cost you roughly: 380 calories or so, not much more than your previous BUT has lots of more protein & fats to keep you full for a bit longer!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
