Can anyone suggest any nice dairy free breakfasts? I've just given up dairy and i can't drink soya milk (it doesn't agree with me) so i'm finding breakfast a bit tricky!
Thanks!
Fresh fruit, dry cereal, granola, soy/coconut milk yogurts...
there are so many other non-dairy milk substitutes, take your pick! Almond milk, hemp milk, oat milk, hazelnut milk, rice milk...
smoothies! Oatmeal! Two breakfasts that are fun and especially easy to spice up and change around in so many ways.
Non-dairy breakfasts are a chinch. You just have to get creative! If you want something easy, they even have non-dairy toaster waffles and things. Toast, on that note! Put something nutritious on it, like nut butter or avocado!
So many options :) Happy breakfasting.
- Toast
- Bagel
- Omelette
- Poached/fried/boiled eggs
- Breakfast sandwich/burrito
- Fruit
- Bacon/ham
I'm sure there are some dairy free recipes out there for things like waffles, pancakes and muffins. Also I agree that you should try some of the many other milk alternatives besides soy.
You could soak oats overnight in some apple juice and then add nuts, dried fruit ect in the morning
All different types of breads are good, like rye, potato, wholegrain, multigrain ect... and then top with some veggie pate, eggs or scrambled tofu, NUT BUTTERS (<bossy because they are sooo good lol), and with the nut butters you could add banana slices, honey, jam ect.
Also You don't have to eat 'breakfast food' just because it's breakfast! You could have leftovers, pasta, rice, bean dishes, even a salad if it takes your fancy!
Infact, breakfast salads on holiday are great - you could have it with some meat or meat substitute, egg, tofu, beans, lentils or even fruits and nuts, along with your fave dressing.
Oatmeal can just be made with water, and then stir in some fruit and nut butter at the end.
Good luck!
I've been having a small tortilla with peanut butter (you can put anything on them). It does the trick for me. Easy to eat at my desk and no mess.
As well, eggs, bacon, toast, fruit smoothy, fruit.
Just curious, why have you decided to give up dairy?
I eat Oatmeal with Bananas and honey( a touch of vanilla extract). i use 1/2 cup more water than recommended. It makes it creamer w/o the milk.
Toasted English Muffin + Fried Egg + Carmalized Onion Slice = Win
waffle & egg sandwich. I get the flaxseed, whole grain waffles from the freezer. it's easy to put together in a hurry.
Eat lunch for breakfast!
1 Thomas English Muffin (add a little jelly, no butter)
4 Egg whites (prepare any way you want, i usually use pam in a frying pan, throw some salt, pepper, salsa or tobasco)
Roughly a 200 calorie breakfast and you feel satisfied!
my favs: quaker weight control oatmeal (you and add water) and kashi go lean cereal dry. I normally put milk in my cereal but in this case i don't.. i find if i put milk in my cereal i tend to eat more bowls so i eat it dry (with something to drink of course) and it still tastes good to me.
ever thought of making oatmeal savory? try cooking it in water, and adding tofu pieces for calcium.
Or just cook it in water and add fruit. If theres enouh fruit, you dont need milk to make it sweet
eggs work really well too, because you can put anything you want in an omelette. tomato, peppers, healthy healthy =]
Dairy doesn't always agree with my stomach in the morning, so I usually choose from...
- a nice bowl of fresh fruit
- toast with lox, tomato, onions and capers
- dry cereal (yay cinnamon toast crunch!)
- country potatoes with lean ham, sauteed peppers and onions
- crumpets with fruit preserves
- egg-white omelette with sauteed veggies
- broiled tomatoes
- breakfast fajitas with egg, bacon, ham, sausage, peppers and onions
- huevos rancheros
Get creative :)
Thank you for all your replies!
I've started getting very creative with breakfast, who knew it could be so versatile!
Hi
I suffer from psoriasis and i've been told that cutting out dairy can improve my skin. I've been doing it for 3 weeks and i have seen a considerable improvement. Whether it has worked or i'm just less stressed i don't know!
Oh man, I eat freakin' mashed sweet potatos for breakfast all the time. And, my patented (tm) banana bread oatmeal.
1 Packet or serving of regular quaker oatmeal
1 banana, diced
1 serving of walnuts or pecans, crushed into small pieces
Heat up the oatmeal as perinstructions, mix in the nuts and top with the banana. Om nom nom
PS i dont make oatmeal with milk
Pezzle - that sounds lush! I'm going to try it!
