Thanks Brandy
And yes, if I eat breakfast, I am still hungry mid-late morning. So eating breakfast, when I am not hungry, only serves to add a few hundred calories to my day that could be avoided if I just wait until I am hungry.
Being hungry is good!!! It means your metabolism is working. It is so important to eat something soon after you wake up to jump start your metabolism for the day. This is why you get hungry so soon afterwards-- it means your metabolism is working! I recommend breaking your meals up into 5 or 6 smaller meals a day.
I usually have oatmeal and fruit or muesli for breakfast. Then around 10:30 or 11, I munch on veggies, hummus and maybe some fruit. I eat lunch late, like around 1 and have another snack, like a luna bar, in the afternoon around 3 or so. I eat when I get home and then, if I'm hungry later, I may get in one small meal around 8 or so.
This method has worked better for me than any other weight-loss method. I never like to allow myself to get too hungry or too full. It's always important to maintain a happy medium. This keeps your body fueled and running efficiently.
Thanks to everyone!

I agree everyone is different but, for me personally, I totally believe I do much better when I eat a good breakfast. I do not eat or overeat throughout the rest of the day, particularly at night, as I used to. I used to be a nighttime overeater for years, all those years when I didn't really eat breakfast. Before I started making the serious lifestyle modifications that I have with serious intention to lose weight and be healthy for good this time, which was in July, I had lost about 15 pounds over the past year, while NOT trying. The only thing different that I had done or was doing during that time was started eating a good breakfast every day. I do believe it does or at least CAN make a big difference.
It's better for weight loss. But not the "most" important thing.
Seriously, I can't weight more than an hour after waking before eating because I'm so hungry I feel like I'm going to die.
I eat breakfast but not when I first get up. Yuck, I think my stomach would start a revolution and LEAVE. In fact, when I was in high school lo these many years ago, my mother would get so upset with me because I just flat out could not eat breakfast.
Now give me a couple of hours, and then I'm ready to eat. And I do mean a couple of hours. I get up at 5:20, and generally eat somewhere between 8 and 9 AM.
Just goes to show how different we all are.
I think another factor that comes into play is what it is you are eating for breakfast. breakfast is very often full of empy calories that cause a huge spike in sugars followed by a starving crash. have you tried eating a breakfast with more fiber in it? something that will stick to your ribs a little bit rather than corn flakes of toast?
breakfast is super key for me. and i agree with all those who mentioned that it jumpstarts you for the day.
mmm breakfast.
I believe that every meal is important, however I don't usually have breakfast until I'm actually hungry. On most days that usually happens around 9am. Yeah, I know about the metabolism thing, but I've learned to listen to my body. I used to want to eat all day too, after breakfast. I would eat breakfast because I was told I had to. Well, like someone else said, we're all different....and if a late breakfast works for you, then go for it.
How can you go withOUT breakfast!
I am absolutely starving in the morning and wouldn't want to go w/o breakfast. I eat a fruit before hitting the gym for 1.5 - 2 hours and then have breakfast after.
By the time I'm done working out I'm starving! I guess eating a fruit and working out with weights twice a week kicks my metabolism in the butt double time.
For months and months now I've been complaining to my "must-eat-breakfast" boyfriend that whenever I *do* actually sit and hunker down before 11ish, then it's like I've primed my body for the rest of the day to want to eat more and more and MORE!
I really thought that maybe I was crazy -- now seeing how a lot of you guys feel I know that it can't just be me.
I don't wake up hungry, most of the time. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule, but most days I just want some tea or a sugar-free mocha cafe au lait. Then around 11 or 12 I actually feel hungry, and I eat a healthy meal. And you know what?? I get full WAY faster than I do if I've eaten a formal breakfast.
I don't know what it is... Maybe by getting my metabolism going earlier, it just wants more to keep it going. But without fail, I am always ALWAYS hungrier for the rest of my day if I stated it out with bfast. And I'm an anti-sugar, fiber-nut, so I know I'm largely eating the right stuff... I just want more and more of it! ;-)
So for me, 'no bfast,' makes a huge difference in not just my caloric intake (breakfast = taking in more calories, cause I'll inevitably eat the same sized lunch and dinner plus snacks), but also in how much more I eat later on.

Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
