I love special K! And I know how hard it is to stick to just 1 serving :(

Usually I have 1 cup of cereal and 1/2 cup of milk. That is about 175 calories all together, so not too bad!

i cant wait till one day they make a  cereal that has 120 calories in 1-1/4 cup serving

They do; it's called Honeycomb.

But Honeycomb is bland and pointless to waste calories on, if you're looking for a healthy fiber-filled brekkie..

i stay away from cereal bec i have no problem eating it by the box.  however, what i would suggest to you is that you try to make it a more complete and satisfying breakfast.  how about 2scrambled eggs w/your serving of cereal w/milk?  or an egg white&veggie scramble.  you could also try adding fruit+yogurt to the cereal+milk (if you like it sort of porridge-y) or just topping yogurt w/half a cup of the cereal.

I tend to eat anywhere between 2-3 servings of any particular cereal. Which is fine with me, even if it means I can eat a 600 cal breakfast depending on the cereal (one of my cereals is like...180 calories 1/2 cup, but is really good for me, so I have 3 servings of it...which is 540 calories right there). But hey. Breakfast typically is the largest meal of the day for me, so I don't mind eating more calories at breakfast than most. =)

For me, Special K just isn't filling enough.  I prefer to invest a few more calories into a breakfast that keeps me satisfied for longer.  One of my favorite healthy breakfast is oatmeal with some flax meal.

1/2 cup oatmeal, dry
1 cup water
2 tbsp Flax Meal
1/2 cup Skim Milk

257 calories, 12.5g protein, 7.8g fat (healthy from the flax), and a whopping 8.1g fiber.

The flax meal adds a delicious nutty flavor along with lots of fiber to give me that "full" feeling for a few hours.

i don't understand the obsession with super-low cal breakfasts.  i often have two breakfasts (cereal @ 7 or so, and a high-protein breakfast around 10) totalling 600 cals or more.  calories are energy, dude.  you can't function without energy!

well, i understand the obsession w/low calorie breakfasts.  and lunches.  and dinners.  and snacks.  this is a calorie counting website, replete w/ppl hoping to lose weight.  many of them are eating around 1500 calories a day.  those ppl might have a 300cal breakfast and lunch, 500cal dinner and 3 100 calorie snacks.

still, i stand by my suggestion to try to "beef up" the special k w/satisfying accompaniments.

I love Kashi GoLean cereal. It's 140 calories for a cup. It has 10 (yes, 10, not a typo) grams of fibers, which puts a dent in your fiber quota for the day. It also has 13 gr of protein. Ingredients include soy, oatmeals and a bunch of whole grains. I eat it with Almond Breeze, which is a light milk substitute, and add Splenda for sweetness. I have been hooked on Kashi for the past 3 years. At some point I tried 'Curves' but did not like it. Also, most 'healthy' cereals have more sugar and less protein than my beloved Kashi. I really really really recommend it.
When I want a change, I make an omelette with Egg Beaters and fill it with a small banana 'stir fried' in a nonstick pan with butter Pam, with a bit of brown sugar and rum flavor.

great suggestion to making special k more filling...add several different fruits! it gets in a quick few servings of fruit for the day too :) i tried the special k diet last year and i enriched my 1/2c of special k with strawberries, bananas, and raisins each morning...it was quite delightful and made the cereal more filling

i used to eat that stuff every morning when i was in the peak of my ED and it certainly didn't stop me from going from 171 to 108 haha.

Eat oatmeal!!!!!! On days I don't want a hot bowl I add about 1/2 cup of sweetened unsweetened almond breeze. Makes it creamy and cools it down. Best part is that a bowl of oatmeal (a big bowl) is only 150 calories!! I do not eat cereal for a meal and the only cereal I use is fiber one to add to my oatmeal or cottage cheese.

yyeaah, curves has HIGH-FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP in it if you read the label..
not cool---so I don't eat it either--
i agree about the kashi

eeek

OMG 1 cup...i eat usually high fibre cereal...sultana bran, shreddies, muesli, granola, etc. but it is so dense!! and i always fill the bowl right up!!

I mean, I dont mind eating a bigger breakfast - id just have a small lunch like a salad or something - i usually estimate my bowls of cereal to be about 400 calories. Is this right? I have lots of cereal but i dont really mesure it :-/ but i dilute my milk with water...just cuz i dont like full on milk, not keen on the taste.

Well, I understand the interest in low cal breakfasts, but what I don't understand is this apparent latching on to Special K as some magical weight loss food.  It's okay in terms of taste and texture, but even with a cup and a half of the stuff, I'm hungry about 45 minutes later - the lack of fiber makes it a very unsatisfying cereal.

I agree with the other posters on going with a more substantial cereal with more fiber (like kashi or oatmeal), or supplement with a small egg white omelette or some yogurt.

I eat 1 cup of cereal (Nature's Path Heritage Flakes) with half a cup of milk. Make sure to get high-fiber, low-sugar cereal instead of Special K, fill up a cup, and enjoy. :) You'll feel better since it's more nutritious, and fuller because of the fiber. If you're looking for a low-cal option, there's a cereal called Puffins from Barbara's Bakery, and the original flavor (which is slightly sweetened and delicious) has 120 cals per cup.

Plus, you could always add fruit to your cereal to make it more interesting - add some berries, for example. Little calories, but even more filling. :)

with cereal, I usually do one cup cereal and one cup milk

Fiber one has 14g of fiber for 1/2 cup and it only has 60 cals. The only problem is it doesn't really fill me up, even though it totally should...
