Breakfast Ideas/things to drink?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey All!

I just started Calorie Counting on Monday with a friend (who is also a member of this site).  We absolutely LOVE this site!!

Neither one of us are huge breakfast people but feel like we need to eat something.  In fact, a friend told me that I should eat within 30 mins after waking up.  Considering I wake up just in time to take a shower, throw on some clothes and get my hair and makeup done, I don't have time to get up and fix a hot breakfast w/eggs or something to that effect.  I'm more of a bagel, granola bar type person.  Does anyone have tips on what we can eat that's low cals.  I know Bagels are not the best - any other suggestions?  I'll need something quick and easy - something I can grab and go and not heat up necessarily.

Also, I do not drink diet drinks.. I hate them.  Sometimes I save my calories so I can have a 100 cal can of Sprite.  Lately, I've been drinking lots of water and sometimes throw in a 5 calorie Crystal light pack (which ends up being 10 cals if I use a whole bottle of water w/it).  Any ideas on something else to drink??  I don't want to get burned out on this stuff... and I feel like I want something else besides water, especially w/breakfast.

Thanks for the help!  - M

You can have juice or milk, yoy can just look at the serving size and have that then drink water once its gone. Granted it'll probably be only a cup to drink but its still better than just drinking water day and night

Hi and Welcome to the Site:

I am a "get up and go" in the morning person as well.  However, I will have a bowl of a "healthy" cereal <Total, Special K, Kashi, etc> with skim milk and bring a piece of fruit for a mid morning snack.  Also, when I'm tired of water, I'll drink unsweetened ice tea with Splenda, or hot green tea with Splenda.  If I want a splurge, I'll drink a serving of Sprite Zero <it tastes better to me than Diet Sprite even though both have zero calories>.  Hope this helps and keep up the good work...

I'm the same way in the mornings. Sometimes I just grab a banana or another piece of fruit. Other times, while I'm getting ready I pop a waffle or two in the toaster and it's ready when I'm walking out the door, and I just eat it in the car. I try to get everything planned the night before so I'm not rushing more then normal in the morning.

I love breakfast myself and I get hungry not long after waking up so I never skip that meal. If you need something fast and easy you can throw a Jimmy Deans Lite Breakast sandwhich in the microwave. Oatmeal is also fast and if you buy it plain you can add a little honey and fruit so it isnt saturated with sugar. I also like to make protein shakes, the Abs diet has some good recipes for those, and you can make it the night before, grab and go!

Hi all,

I just thought I'd mention Stevia.  Its a new sweetener that is from a plant and might be better for you than the Splenda, Equal etc. artificial stuff.  We need to save calories on sugar so why not try to make it as healthy as possible.  Just a suggestion.

I am the same way, always in a rush out the door.  I keep a box of cereal bars at work (like Nutri-grain or generic) and make a cup of hot tea to go before i run out the door!  The tea helps keep your metabolism up ( I like green tea or Earl Grey), and a cereal bar doesn't have too many calories but keeps my hunger under control for a few hours.  I also try to sit down and have a bowl of healthy cereal before I leave if I have time, this is a healthier option than any packaged alternatives and only takes 5-10 minutes.  I hope this helps....good luck!

I hate drinking water, but I've recruited a "water buddy" at work to help me. Other things I drink are seltzer water with no artificial sweetners.  I get the feel of soda without the calories and sugar, plus I can give it to my tow year old guilt free.

For breakfast I eat instant oatmeal.  High in fiber, low sugar and fat.  I leave a box in my desk then I have no excuses to buy my breakfast which is all too easy since we have a cafe at work that will even let me run a tab!  Yikes.

I Drink unsweetened iced tea with sweet n low, Also you could try special K K20 protein water. It has  protein which suppresses appetite only 30 cals per serving and they are good. Also try wylers light lemonade they are really good 10 cal per serving. I want to try the protein shakes but don'tknow much about them?:) Vitamin water and Gatorade are a good alternative too soda they have less cals per serving. Good luck all!

I am a breakfast eater for sure.  I alternate between my 3 favorite breakfasts: Honey Bunches of Oats (w/o almonds) and 1/2 cup FF milk; egg beater omelet with spinach on toasted 100 cal English muffin; and English muffin with reduced fat peanut butter.  All three give me lots of energy and keep me satisfied.

If I were in a rush, I'd probaly choose one of those breakfast cookies by Quaker (they are good) and some reduced calorie orange juice.
