Breakfast, my new enemy!
Okay, (Yes another forum post, I swear this is the last *shifty eyes*)![]()
Last week, I haven't eaten any breakfast, ate only 1200 calories and felt full all day. I was eating very healthy, and I felt great! I woke up feeling awesome throughout the day, no binges, no cravings..yadda yadda yadda.
This week, I am eating breakfast, it sucks because I am craving food, binging, and being all bloated and stuff. Eating way more calories than what I am supposed to. (1300-1500, grams of carbs are around 200)
I know I recently put up a post about me eating too many carbs, and yes I got reassurance that I am not eating too much (thanks guys).
Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone here at all skip breakfast? I was reading on diet myths, and you DON'T have to eat breafast (I wish I had the link, I would show it to everyone here lol) Anyways.
*Shrugs* If breakfast doesn't agree with you, then don't eat it. It's pretty simple. The whole "but it boosts your metabolism!!" thing isn't that huge of a deal.
Agreed! Starting tomorrow, no breakfast. I'l have my breakfast food for supper, light and easy :D
im no expert but you might just have to get used to it . its a different eating habit your body is experiencing n itll prob. benifit you in the long run just eating breakfast boosts your metabolism enourmously witch = more calories burned through out the day i used to no eat breakfast but ever since i started working out i do
Mmmm, well, for most people, if they eat breakfast they're not as hungry later on, and if they skip breakfast, they more than make up for it later. That's why breakfast is generally recommend for most people trying to lose wait. The whole starting up the metabolism is iffy at best. Still, since you haven't eaten anything for at least 8 hours by the time, personally I think it's good to give your body some fuel to start the day, but again, that's a personal thing.
If it makes you feel gross then skip it. I normally skip breakfast but eat a snack around 10:00 of oatmeal, fruit, etc. If your set on breakfast why not try something small? Like a bar, a piece of fruit, yogurt, or some granola cereal with skim milk, maybe drink a small naked fruit drink or a fruit smoothie? Anything heavy would make me feel sick all day.
It's your body and not everyone works the same. It isn't proven that eating breakfast boosts metabolism or anything. I personally am not hungry in the morning, so I don't eat or else I feel sick. I dont think the rules apply to eating breakfast if your stomach cant handle it :) Im no expert, but no one is going to force feed you breakfast.
I've never eaten breakfast. I can't stomach food in the morning. Just coffee...lots of coffee.
NPR says a partial fast can be good actually, contrary to what people like to say about "OH NO YOUR METABOLISM IS GOING TO SHUT DOWN!"

I've eaten, overeaten and not eaten breakfast over the years. Overeating it I gained a lot of weight, and I'd advise staying away from a heavy charge of carbs early in the AM. For the last 2 years of counting calories I wake up at 5 AM starving, and nothing fixes it like a couple cups of coffee and 250-300 calories worth of yogurt with fruit, peanut buttered toast and cottage cheese.
i only eat breakfast on the weekends at like 10-11 so its more of a brunch. i dont like to eat breakfast on school days because im too tired and cold in the morning and when i eat breakfasts on school days it just leads eating more and more cereal and then i feel crappy and bloated all day at school and end up going over my daily calories.
I think the real risk is in getting too hungry and over eating later in the day. I've either not eaten breakfast AND overeaten later in the day, or (as now) tried eating breakfast and watching what I eat later in the day, too. I hven't tried the "no breakfast/count cals the rest of the day" approach; I'm a little scared about overeating and this seems to be working for me, although I am a bit hungry a lot of the day and I do tend to eat more in the evening than I plan--not so much that I'm overeating, but I do cut into my deficit a bit. Still, it was working for me so I'm sticking with it for now.
I agree with others: if it works for you, fine! Just remember to consider the breakfast option if you find you are having trouble controlling later-in-the-day hunger down the road.
Best of luck.
You don't HAVE to eat breakfast, but it's much better for your metabolism. Can you post what foods you were eating for breakfast that made you feel so bloated? It doesn't sound like your breakfast had anything lasting in it -- fat, or fiber. If you're going to start the day off right, you want to feel full, so eat someting with fat in it and something with fiber in it. For you, it might be two whole eggs and a piece of toast, or something along those lines.
Please post about your breakfast choices -- this is unnatural and I'm concerned for you.
Usually for breakfast , when I did have breakfast, I would have two eggs(one is just pathetic), whole grain toast and a clementine. Or Oatmeal and crap loads of coffee. Or whole grain cereal with fruit. All healthy (except for coffee aka. my sanity) LOL Don't be concerned LOL, just a preference that's all, still healthy.
Oh yeah, and if I don't eat 1200 calories in one day, it's not the end of the world for me. I read the link above and I'm thinking of fasting once a month, or week. I need to talk to my doctor about it.

That doesn't sound like it should cause what you described. It also doesn't sound like I can help you, sorry.
I will throw my 2cents in about fasting though: "no thanks."
Last time I posted in a breakfast issue thread, I was nearly stoned for telling the poster that if breakfast is doing nothing but making them hungrier throughout the rest of the day, cut it out or wait until later and eat a small snack before lunch time. I had that problem back when I first started counting. After eating breakfast, I would be absolutely starving within 2 hours. Now, I eat oatmeal for breakfast most of the time, though, I still end up hungry before lunch. I don't do 6 small meals a day because when I eat, I like to feel full.
In saying all that, I advice you to just do what works for you as long as it's healthy. If breakfast makes your efforts harder, just skip it and eat a snack later.
I'm 44 and have faced the same problem all my life. If I eat breakfast, I want to do nothing but eat all day. The exception I make is on strength training days. I eat a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk at least an hour before my workout, otherwise I feel sick and can't finish. I think we all have to do what works best for us.
I'm usually hungrier throughout the day when I'm eating breakfast. That's why I skip it usually, but my doctor told me that being hungry after a few hours is the sign of a normal and healthy metabolism--apparently if you eat in the morning, your body comes out of fasting mode a few hours earlier and you're hungrier through the day. Don't know if this helps you in your breakfast decision, but I thought I'd put in my two cents. :)
I always eat a big breakfast within an hour of waking up and after working out. I do feel like I get hungry throughout the day, but that's a good thing. As the previous poster was saying, it's a good sign if you're hungry a few hours after eating. If you skip breakfast and don't feel hungry all day it doesn't really matter that you eat a couple hundred fewer calories, because that is a clear sign that your metabolism is sluggish.
I guess if you don't want to eat breakfast, don't eat it, but it's not going to help you lose weight to skip it.
yea I'm the same way if I eat breakfast I am hungry at some point during the day
I used to skip breakfast too. I'm never hungry in the morning and usually eating breakfast gets my metabolism going so that I'm hungry within 2-3 hrs. and have to eat more, where as if I hadn't eaten breakfast I wouldn't get hungry for 4 ish hours.
Because I know I'd rather have my metabolism going, I eat breakfast but it's very small. I have a cup of coffee and a special k bar, or some blueberries (never over 100 calories) and then I have another very small snack (usually more fruit or some string cheese, under 100 cals) mid morning around 11, and it's been working well for me. Maybe that's something you should try, is to just have a very small breakfast. All natural applesauce is great too because 1/2 cup is only 50 cals.

From the extensive searches I have done on the net (which I must say it is not the most consistent source) basically people have been told a range of things but the most popular one I have heard is to have a hearty breakfast. NOT TRUE.
I used to skip breakfast and would cause hunger pangs all the time. So in my own little technique I try balancing it all. Keep your metabolism up! Eat a moderate breakfast like Special K Berries. Then eat a moderate lunch; salad, tuna and etc.
Basically don't skip meals because 'most' people tend to over compensate like I have in the past.
What I have discovered is my cure all for hunger pangs is water. Lots of it (Technically the amount your suppose to drink). When I drink a lot of water it makes me feel very full. Which according to military training sites is the best way to prevent water retention ie. bloating.
Also a lot of it depends on your own lifestyle. Office job or active job? If you are eating breakfast it's good to excercise at least 60mins a day. Vigorously. This way your metabolism is always kicked up and helps you burn more calories through the day.
As for carbs. 75% of my carb intake comes at night for dinner in the form of rice. In turn 2-3 hours later when my food is digested I have plenty of energy for my 90min workout.
Find a groove that works for you!
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
