I hate breakfast. My breakfast consists of a cigarette or two. Plus a glass of water if I'm being healthy. Even before I was a smoker I found it very hard to eat breakfast. It's less to do with not being hungry and more to do with A) being too lazy to make breakfast, B) having to focus so much on actually moving my ass out of bed that I just don't recognise any hunger I might have and C) breakfast not being my most hungry time.
But it is supposed to be the most important meal of the day and I'm trying to get healthier aswell as lose weight so does anyone have any suggestions as to healthy, natural foods to eat that will boost my metabolism and blood sugar levels but that doesnt take an age to prepare or can be prepared in an advance?
I love breakfast! If you force yourself to eat just a little something, it is better than nothing and you will find that your body grows used to it and actually looks forward to its wake up call every morning. Things you could try that don't take much time and aren't too heavy...
A pot of yoghurt and a piece of fruit
A slice of toast with peanut butter and a piece of fruit
Bowl of muesli, porridge or wholegrain cereal with milk and fruit on top
A sandwich is good - lean meat and veggies on wholegrain bread
An egg cooked in the microwave (takes hardly anytime at all) whilst toast is cooking, and a glass of orange juice
You could cut up some different kinds of fruit in advance and keep them in the fridge to sprinkle over your cereal/eat with yoghurt/by themselves if you really can't face anything else
'Healthy', 'natural' and 'cigarettes' just don`t go well together. I`d ditch the habit of smoking before it was too late if I were you. Replace the cancer sticks with cinnamon sticks in your oatmeal (made the evening before, popped in the fridge).
You`ll see that after a little bit of adjusting, your body will love breakfast and you will wake up delightfully ravenous. Cravings are taught, not born, as I`m sure you know by now (unless you were a baby smoker xD). Besides, ciggies alter your sense of smell and taste, so it`s no wonder at all that your appetite is suppressed.
That "most important meal of the day" thing is silly, people eat at different times, we're not all alike. Why not skip eating when you wake up, and then plan a healthy mid-morning snack once you're awake enough to enjoy it? One thing I have learned is that there is NO golden rule to weightloss, i've seen it with myself, friends, family - what works excellently for one person doesn't do anything for another, might even be counter-productive.
Example: I tried snacking, same calories as before, my weight-loss stalled, I stopped doing it and the weighloss started up again like clockwork. Why, who knows, but I measure and weigh carefully and nothing extra was creeping in there! Listen to your body and your needs - maybe you just prefer to do your eating later in the day, that's NOT a crime!! It;s my opinion that Rules about when we SHOULD eat just add to the existing pressure of dieting, and do nothing to help people get in touch with their hunger.
If that sounds rude to the other posters please be assured I don't mean it that way, but I've seen too many people me included slip and fall because of well-meaning advice, which works for others that just isn't right for us.
My mom lost 30lbs and has kept it off for years by cutting out canteen lunches and just eating a huge breakfast and a big dinner, me I;d faint if I didn't eat lunch, so IMO and after years of watching dieters and losing (and gaining) myself, its just about finding out what works for you and not forcing anything.
Pack something the night before, grab it on your way out in the morning and eat it around 9:30 or 10:00, when you can take a break.
I do get hungry most mornings, but I'm way too lazy/rushed to make breakfast, so I grab 2 packets of Quaker reduced sugar instant oatmeal and eat it as soon as I get to work. We have the instant hot water in our sinks there, and honestly, I'm so lazy in the mornings I won't even bother boiling water lol.
I used to skip breakfast too because I wasn't hungry but after I forced it a couple of days, I got my hunger back and I find oatmeal vs anything else I've tried tides me over until my midmorning snack.
Like troi_blue said, everyone is different and you have to find what works for you. Try a few things and see what works for you.
Good luck! :)
i smoke cigs for breakfast too ;( yeah i need to quit!!!! but because im not hungry i just drink a slim fast :) not very healthy but thats what i do....
I have been experimenting with eating breakfast on and off for years. The bottom line: it just makes me hungry! So I skip it.
After a pot of coffee, I try to swallow a table spoon or two of low fat cottage cheese before I leave the house.
I'm not a morning person either and I find I'm not generally hungry until an hour or more after I wake up. I used to take my shredded wheat to the office and eat breakfast when I got into work. I lost a lot of weight doing this.
I'm not a breakfast person but ive recently started eating breakfasts regularly and found it rly keeps the snacking at bay.
On lazy days i have a large banana, or a handfull of fruits because its absolutly no effort and quite filling. I also have banana custard alot! Its pretty easy to get no added sugar custard mix, just add hot water and pour over a large banana...works out at about 150-200cal and its very yummy!
If your REALLY lazy in the mornings why not make a Banana and berry smoothie the night before? Grab it out of the fridge and drink it with your cigarette :P
Ive also found microwave prorridge awesome, just add milk, wack it into the microwave for a few mins, top with a tbsp of 100% fruit jam and it sets you up for the day.

Sorry to be a douche bag, but I think you need to change two things (one being obvious, but I'm going to say it anyways.) #1 Quit smoking, #2 Change your attitude.
I'm not going to talk about #1 because you already know everything I'm sure. But I will talk about #2. Your attitude. If you want to be really serious about losing weight, then quit being so lazy. Losing weight and keeping it off requires a life style change, which requires discipline.
Maybe instead of sittin in bed, you'll get your butt up and take a walk. While you're walking, you can think about what you'll have for breakfast. The walk and the thinking will make you hungry, possibly.
Also, if you don't want to eat breakfast, then don't eat it. Eat later and call it breakfast.
Sorry if I sound mean, but something trivial like trying to get out of bed is lame, unless you're bedridden. Think about eating right and exercising as opposed to lifting yourself out of bed. Start getting serious about what you want in life and just friggin' do it.
I suffer from insomnia hun. So considering I live on about 3 hours on a good day mornings are not a good time for me. I go to work, running round in a busy restaurant/pub and still go for a long walk every evening. I can assure you I am very serious about losing weight. And as for the cigarettes, they are one of my most favourite hobbies. Trust me, considering some of the things I have done in the past, smoking is the least of my worries.
Oh boy! I am an evening smoker, morning walker. And very serious about losing the extra 25 pounds that crept on since Sept. 08 when my significant other blew out his knee and was home on the couch 24/7 for 12 weeks in a row, then the holidays...blah, blah, excuse, excuse.
But my lastest wake up call/inspiration/ get back to Calorie Counter was having my parents here for that past 2 weeks. I been preaching to my 65 year old mother to step up her walks and sissy 'wall push-ups' (and she tells me, rightly so, to give up the night-time cocktail & smoke) because I am not going to be wiping her butt for her in 20 years! HOW IS THAT FOR SOUNDING MEAN!?!
Exercising and staying fit and healthy is no longer so much a vanity thing for me, any more, as it is trying to remain healthy AND INDEPENDENT well into my 80's & 90's. (grandma just turned 88 and has been a very healthy COUCH POTATOE until this year.......now there is trouble getting herself off of the commode, in & out of tub....oh boy)
Ya'll are much needed outlet. Glad I am back on track and not alone!
I used to never eat breakfast and now I don't know how I managed haha. It is one of my biggest meals now...but anyway, just start off having something really small. A piece of toast takes 2 minutes in the morning, or something like a yogurt, even a piece of fruit if that's all you can stomach. After a while you will get used to it :)
