Is breakfast supposed to make you fuller longer or hungrier sooner?
I had been being bad about breakfast and recently began reintroducing it daily. Aaannd now I'm more hungry than ever. I feel that this is getting out of control and I seem so easily willing to indulge post-lunch. I feel out of control over my hunger WHEN I EAT BREAKFAST. What is that about? breakfast, for example, a bagel with light cream cheese and coffee or oats and yogurt with coffee.
I used to have this same problem but resolved the issue by spacing my breakfast out over the course of the morning. I'll have some yogurt about 7:30 (protein to start) and then I'll have a cereal bar about 9:00 (get some grains in there) and then a piece of fruit, usually a banana, about 10:30. That way, I'm eating about every 90 minutes and then am ready for lunch at 12:00. I do the same thing in the afternoons: snack at 2:00, again at 3:00 and one more at 4:00. I get off work at 4:30 and then it's off to workout. Not saying it's for everyone but it works great for me!

the oats are the high protein kashi ones with fiber, and the yogurt is activia light; if i have too much fat in the morning i have to go to the potty in bad way.
if i do have a bagel, its a high protein multigrain one and i thought the cream cheese would help it "stick to my ribs."
so go potty when you have to? i agree that you could use some fat in your bfast. the fact that you're hungry is probably just a sign that your metabolism is kicking on. the binge issue is probably just related to a pattern of response that you've learned to your own hunger cues. given your history of under-eating and the fact that remain very active, i think you should follow your hunger cues. maybe this means to just PLAN on having another snack an hour or two after your breakfast. learning how to live with your hunger cues is going to be a much better skill than learning how to turn them off.
there is some fat there - but the kind of potty to which i'm referring is the kind of potty for which i don't have time when i'm say, dropping my daughter off at preschool. having a really fatty breakfast negatively activates my digestion.
a tablespoon of pb doesn't make your breakfast "really fatty." eating a pound of bacon...that's another story. i agree with helen that you absolutely need to be eating breakfast. i'll reiterate that i think you should just plan on having a snack at whatever time you usually get hungry after breakfast. it's normal to have a snack between bfast and lunch. it kind of sounds like there's a bit of a goldilocks thing going on with you where you're not happy if you're not hungry and not happy when you are. i think the only way to make this situation "just right" is to work WITH your experience, rather than trying to figure out whether or not it's OK to have your experience. i think there's something to be said about just hanging in there and learning from your experience.
lol you are SO RIGHT about the Goldilocks thing when it comes to food. It used to be in the distant past I'd just eat even if it was an inappropriate time, and then it was that I wouldn't eat unless I was entirely comfortable, happy, quiet, and the kids weren't bugging me about anything, etc. I seriously just wonder about the breakfast thing. What is it SUPPOSED to do - make you hungrier or not? It sounds like mixed experiences.
I definitely don't mind being hungry. I was a little nervous when I waasn't hungry at all. I get nervous when I'm super hungry but at least then I have the hope that I'm getting my period. What I'd crave is a little consistency. My activity level is consistent, it seems my appetite should be, too.

here's your answer! just listen to yourself:
1) other people have mixed experiences, which means that WHATEVER your experience is, it's VALID.
2) your appetite fluctuates. this may just be what's normal for YOU. i think your best bet is to just be consistent with your cal intake and your meals and just try to notice how your appetite fluctuates. try to treat it with a gentle curiosity, rather than as a cause for concern. let your experience be valid, because it's the only experience you've got. :)
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
