Ok, I'm told you're supposed to eat within an hour of waking up to like get your metabolism going. And I'm hungry when I first get up so that's fine, but I'm also supposed to take my thyroid meds when I first wake up. The thing is, I'm not supposed to eat for an hour after taking the meds and by then my body seems to forget it's hungry and I thus forget to eat at all in the morning. Do you guys have any ideas of how I can remember to eat (since my body fails to remind me lol) or of something I can eat after taking the meds that won't affect it's absorption in my body? I was thinking if I ate something small or had like a protein shake or something it might be ok, but I don't know for sure and I can't seem to get my oh so busy doctor to call me back on such a mundane issue. lol
Thanks in advance for any advice you may give. :)

i take my thyroid meds and eat breakfast anyways
it hasnt seemed to affect my numbers

i have my pill, then a bowl of fruit, then about an hour later
toast with peanut butter, or oatmeal or cereal

I am going through this thyroid thing, also!.... I take the thyroid pill on the intial get up and piddle run..full glass of water...then and hour later eat the breakfast.... Accoding to the small print it needs to be taken on an empty stomach and needs about and hour.... I don't know if you are taking Fosamax.. bone density...but if you read the small print on the thyroid bottle... there is and interference with your calcium absorbtion....don't take any calciium for four hours... Won't be absorbed and causes interference with the thyroid... Just a thought..my chemistry wasn't changing because I wasn't taking it quite right...Now, I start the calcium imput at luch and there after!! Good luck...I gained back almost all I had lost in the last two years with this little excursion...but finally I am starting to loose again... cross your fingers... Good luck! ;-)
pre plan your breakfasts. Use part of that hour to set the table and fix yourself something healthy and appetizing. Take a little time to pamper yourself too.
I started taking my meds at night for that very reason.
i have 2 alarms, one for when i actually get up and one set an hour before that for my thyroid meds. i keep my pill out in a little glass with a bottle of water right next to it on my bedside, that way i don't have to fumble around too much so that i can get back to sleep. i would never eat with them (especially not with coffee!), and would also be sure that you're taking certain meds (like the calcium, iron, birth control, etc.) far away from them (4-5 hours).
its never bothered me, i get up and its instant reaction to wake up, grab my pills by my bed. Go to sleep for a bit (doze) then wake up and go get breakfast, never worried about the times i eat and thyriod med taking
I have just started taking mine at about 4:30 in the afternoon before my evening meal which would i would usually eat about an hour or two after I take it. No issues. I have also taken before going to bed a few times but find that it keeps me up and my temp a little high. Between 4:30 and 6 has worked out really well for me.
but cherrycolor, how do you time eating and taking meds in the afternoon like this? don't you worry that you aren't supposed to take thyroid pills a few hours after a meal? or do you not eat from like 1:30-5:30? and if so, how do you not eat for so long? i wish i had that kind of control!
