breakthrough bleeding while on the pill
hey i asked about this before but no one responded. I took a month off of my birth control because it expired and i waited too long to refill it. So i restarted it and i have been having bleeding and cramping for about 5 days. i know its normal to have breakthrough bleeding, but i didnt expect it to basically be a regular period! Has anyone had this happen? DOes anyone know how long it will last??
As soon as you stop taking birth control pills your menstrual cycle will get back into action. For some people it takes a while. For others it's more instant.... hence why pregnancy is a risk if you miss one tablet. Many contraceptive pills are designed as a 21 day course with a 7 day break and a 'regular period' is what happens in between. I would expect the bleeding to last as long as a normal period. If it's heavy or painful or unusual in any other respect, do talk to your doctor.
the break through bleeding is very common with low dose BC. I was on lutera for 2 yrs and in the last few months of taking it, if I missed just one pill I would get a full on period. If I was good and took all my pills the most bleeding id experience was about a week before my 'period' and it woul last 2 days. what pills are you on by the way?
that happened to me before, it was like I was having 2 periods a month for a short while. I asked my gyno about it and she said that it was okay and that if the problem persists I should contact her again. it ended up fixing itself all on its own. it sucks but it should be nothing to worry about.
im on loestrin fe, i konw its very low dose so that might be why it's happening, but it didn't happen when i started it two years ago...it sucks because when on the pill, sometimes i don't even get a period and when i do it is so easy to deal with and lasts like 3 days!
