Breast surgery

Quote  |  Reply

First of all, I'm 15 years old, my weight is 130 and I am 5'6''. I started dieting Fall 2006 and since then I have lost 120 pounds, I used to weight 250....Now, my breast don't exactly look great due to all the weight loss so I have been contemplating breast surgery. I have talked to my parents about this and they are willing to talk to some doctors. But before going anywhere I have some questions and thought that maybe I could have them answered here...

1) Are there any risks with getting breast surgery at my age?

2) Can a women breast feed after getting breast implants?

All advice is greatly appreciated.

no ethical doctor would give you implants.

there are risks with any surgery at any age.

see the 15-year-old/nose job threads.

Hey! I just answered another post of yours Smile.

There are risks to breast surgery at every age, but the risks are minimized if you do your research and find a surgeon that you feel comfortable with. You have a couple of options on what kind of breast surgery you could get. First, you could have your breasts lifted. With this, the surgeon removes some of the extra skin that you have in your breasts since you've lost weight and lifts your breasts back up to a reasonable level (aka no more sagging). With this surgery you would have no implants and would be more natural. Second, you could get implants alone, or you could get implants and a breast lift.

Now, I'm not sure whether or not a plastic surgeon would be willing to operate on you since you are only 15, but that is something to talk to him/her about.

Good luck!!

At 15 years old, your body (including your breasts) are not finished developing so breast implants at your age would not be the greatest idea.

I agree with pgeorgian, that there are risks with any surgery at any age (blood clots, painful swelling and inflamation, infection, nerve damages, internal hemorrhage, etc).

I also think that your parents should shower you with hugs and kisses and tell you that you are perfect just the way you are. By agreeing to even just 'speak' to plastic surgeons about the possibility of you getting breast implants, sends the wrong message to you about how you should feel about your body.

Yes, women can still breast feed with breast implants. Having worked in a maternity ward, I have seen a few women try to breast feed with breast implants. The problem lies in the fact that when breasts become engorged with milk (a woman went from a cup A/B to DD), it can get pretty painful. Now think about how that would feel if your breasts are carrying more than they should! Another problem would be in actually being able to breastfeed your infant. Babies do not 'suck' milk out with thier lips. They use their bottom jaw to get the milk out... meaning they need a good latch on thier mother's breast (nipple reaching almost the back of the babies' throat) or else nothing will come out. Having enourmous breasts from the implants and the milk will make it difficult for the baby to latch.

You look great and losing 120 lbs takes a lot of will power and strenght. Build on that new found confidence, focus on school, and enjoy your teenage years.

I really think maybe I shouldn't have posted this because I now feel people cannot relate/understand my situation and are receiving the wrong message. I do not want to get breast surgery because I want men looking at my breast nor do I want to go from a size B to a D or DD. I have been contemplating breast surgery but hoping not having to necessarily insert implants but instead having the breast lifted for they are sagging due to the large amount of weight I lost in such a short time.... Anyway thank you for your comments and advice

honestly I would wait a few years, because since there's a chance you're not 100% developed yet and you might not need/want surgery in a bit. I'd hold off until you're 18 at least.
in the mean time...you can invest in really good bras!
My boobs kept developing untill I was 21! Not just getting bigger from gaining weight - like gland growth, nipple size ect. I totally understand wanting a breast lift, and if there was no way you were going to develop any more, I'd say go for it. However, I'd wait in your case untill I finished developing.
Great job on the weight loss!  BUT, please hold off because your body/breast may still be changing for another 4-5 yrs!  As a person who is unhappy with her own breasts (mine are too big, and now are saggy) I DO understand your feelings.  Since it's not about boys yet, and no one should be seeing your breasts but you, try to consider waiting until you're older to make any major changes.  There are ways to tighten and tone your chest so start with those.  A good bra like someone mentioned will also help.  Then, when you're ready, you can look at surgery.  I know it's hard to be told to wait!  I'm the most impatient person I know, but you're getting some very valuable advice so please consider.  :)  All the best to you and ENJOY your success!
I agree with the majority, give it some time. Like others mentioned you may still be developing, and they may re-inflate naturally on their own. If there is no specific reason on why now, instead of later, just be patient. I would never recommend breast implants, but if you want the lift (later) go for it. I saw Dr. Rey on Dr.90210 do a breast lift on someone and he did a great job, they actually looked a lil fake just because they were so perky.

I've had three babies and I've breast fed every one of them.  I'm 41 and NOW is the time for a boob job!  Wait until you're all done cuz havin' them babies is gonna ruin 'em anyway! :D

Good luck sweetie - I DO hope you wait...
