Breastfeedin mama who is kind of stuck!!
good job on the breastfeeding. it burns 500 calories a day on average, and as your baby gets older your body will make more milk, burning more calories. and you've also taken off about a pound a week since january, a good rate. pat yourself on the back, mama!
if you drop your calories too much your milk production will drop. i'd bump up the exercise, which will re-rev your metabolism. stay hydrated too, lots of fresh water!
i got a great book from the library a year or two ago called "lose your mummy tummy", cant remember who it was by but the info seemed sound. talks about postpartum weight loss. there's also mommy and me classes some places offer where you use the baby as a weight.
some women do keep an extra 5-10 pounds while they are breastfeeding in fat reserves and breast tissue that comes off when you wean, but the benefits in health for the baby and for you, like dropping your breast cancer risk, make it worthwhile to keep it up for a year or two at least.
I nursed my daughter for the first year, and I feel your pain. I had gained quite a bit of weight, and had the hardest time losing it. It didn't really start to come off the way I wanted it to until I weaned her.
You should be proud of the weight that you have lost, and like someone else here said, maybe try to increase you exercise a little.
I'm totally not a gym rat, so I bought a cheap little 6lb exercise ball ( like a tiny medicine ball ) and some small weights, and did a little at home. I also took long walks, and tried to walk everywhere I could ( though this might be easier for me, I live in NYC ).
Good luck, and don't sweat it so much. If you continue to eat right, and exercise, the weight will eventually fall off.
Hello
This is only my second day on CC and I love it. I am still nursing my ten month old baby girl and have lost about 40lbs since her birth. I don't exercise a lot because I have a 2 year old son too. What I found that works for me is to really think about what I am eating. If I wouldn't feed it to my children, I won't eat it. You have to remember that you are nourishing your baby with the food you eat. I wouldn't recommend restricting calories at all this early is your sons development! You might be restricting his vitamin needs. Just eat foods that are healthy-lots of fruits and vegetables and drink tons of water. I have a baby carrier that I can strap my daughter on my chest. I use it when I go shopping or on a walk. You will not believe how tough it is to walk with the extra weight. Good Luck!
My baby is almost 9 months and I've been doing CC for about a month now and have lost about 6 pounds. I'm eating 1950 calories a day and it seems like I'm eating all the time! Breastfeeding, since I've been watching what I eat, has been contributing to me losing weight. I wouldn't advice cutting much more calories from your diet. It can contribute to changing the fat content of your milk which I've found makes my baby less "satisfied" and she doesn't sleep as well.
What I'm working on is eating "better" calories.
My other advice is to get active, no matter what you do. Even walking with the baby for 10-15 minutes a day has helped. It also helped to put the baby in some kind of baby carrier and do light housework. Every bit helps (at least that's what I've found).
I know that the weather isn't nice right now, but are you able to pack up a stroller and head to the mall? This isn't always practical for everyone, but just walking through the mall a few times has really helped me to be a bit more active.
You could also look into "baby and me" classes, if there are any available and you can afford it. Your little guy is probably too little for an aquafit class, but you might be able to find something else.
My baby girl is 7 months old, and I remember that around 3 months I had a huge plateau. By 5 or 6 months, I magically lost 10 pounds. I have no idea how or why, but I stepped on the scale one day and I was down to 180. I didn't count calories or anything. So don't give up yet, you might find that as your baby gets more active (and thus you get more active because chasing after a crawling baby is work!), you'll find the pounds come off even more.
And as cliche as it is - 9 months in, 9 months out! :)
