Bride Buddies
Lemntwist, do you have a lot of people who would be flying in to your wedding? I don't know how your family is specifically, but I don't think Nov. 15th would be that bad. I think they would come. You could have a Thanksgiving themed reception, if you want. :-) It's your ONE wedding, so most people will want to be there no matter when it is.
Thanks for the compliments, by the way! The wedding was in Fitchburg, MA, at a lovely place called Coggshall Park.
I'm back from my honeymoon - the wedding was Oct 7th, so we went on vacation to Lake George, NY for the rest of that week after Columbus Day. It was simple, not a big vacation extravaganza, but lots of fun and great relaxing time. It was great to just enjoy having fun together, not worrying about the wedding or work or other people. That's what the honeymoon's all about. We went to a bed and breakfast, and the people were really nice.
Lemntwist - Thanks for the info! I did check out your journal entry on body fat percentages so I guess I'll just pull out my tape measure tonight and see what those sites have to say!
Also, I agree with Shoeofkuribo that Nov 15th is a good option.... yes it's close to Thanksgiving, but if someone wants to attend your wedding, they will come no matter when it is.... and anyway, it's YOUR wedding so pick a date and location that you are comfortable with and let everyone else determine if they want to be there or not. Unless you know that date won't work for significant people (family, members of your wedding party, etc), there's enough other stresses to deal with... so try not to worry too much about trying to pick a date that works into everyone else's schedules.
thanks guys, I guess you're right, people will come if they want to. The wedding will be in las vegas (vegas baby!) and everyone will be flying in (or driving from LA area). I can just hear people complaining that tickets are more expensive around then or whatever. Oh well people keep telling me 'just do what you want - it's your day'. I'm really trying to get that into my head :)
My family is mostly in denver and chicago and his family/ friends are mostly coming from England! We thought it would be fun for them and more of a vacation then going to denver. I'm sure they will appreciate the warm weather and sun! (even in oct/ nov). Honestly, I was also thinking I don't care who comes, if it's not in denver a lot less people will come. But it turns out I do care!
Fall is my favorite season anyway!
Good morning ladies!
What is everyone's exercise/ workout plans?
I just started the Slim in 6, I've done three days so far. I actually like being able to work out from home and no extra equipment is needed. I put on music louder than the voices and it gets me pumped up! I must look like such a dork though if anyone could see me :)
I don't really have much of an exercise plan, but I try to get in as much exercise as possible... even though that hasn't been working all that well lately because of scheduling. My fiance and I have been sharing a car for the last couple of weeks since his died... and he works really weird hours so between my own job, my kids and getting him back and forth to work, I haven't been able to find time to get much in. But he just made a down payment on a new car, so life will get back to normal next week.
However, I have been faithful to using my hand weights and working on my arms and shoulders... gotta get the arm flab under control for that strapless gown I have picked out!!!!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeah, I got engaged on 10/13/07 and I just set a date today for Sept 6, 2008 at 1pm with reception at 5:30pm. I am so psyched.
I was thinking to join the gym called Physique 57 in NYC which does the Lotte Berk method to buff up now that I am finally at maintenance after losing close to 30 lbs in 2007. Any thoughts on that?
{{{{hugs everyone}}}}
nycgirl ~ congrats! wa-hoo! for the maintenance and the engagement! I have never heard of Lotte Berk, but I was considering doing the same thing- getting a trainer to help get really toned once I'm at maintenance. It seems like it would be extra motivation. You can't really go wrong with joining a gym trainer or not.
mrskeith ~ since you don't have lots of time to drive around, you should try DVDs you can do in the living room, it's way easy to squeeze in 30 minutes that way. Good news on the car, I can imagine that would be a major pain...
I didn't work out all weekend, but did do a lot of walking and still losing. Actually I met my second goal today - 10 lbs lost! I know I can do the next ten, the holidays will make things a bit more difficult, but I am feeling pretty confidant!
Congrats nycgirl!!!!! I've never heard of Lotte Berk either, but I agree that it never hurts to join a gym... as long as you actually go and get your money's worth!
Thanks for the suggestion lemntwist and congrats on meeting your goal!!! I've got a few DVDs already... and there's usually something on FIT tv.... my only problem is actually DOING it instead of just sitting there watching!! LOL
but seriously, I just never seem to have the motivation to get up and follow them.... and it's so easy to cheat when no one else is there to encourage you... does anyone else ever have that problem?
I've noticed that it's best for me to get out the house... even if it's just going for a walk/jog around the neighborhood.... at least that way when I get tired and want to quit, I have to at least walk far enough to get back home!!!
OK well big day here y'all- I put down a deposit at our reception place! It's a golf club and the ceremony will be out side, with the sunset on the strip. J and I looked at eight places in one weekend -whoa that was tiring- and this was the place we overall liked the best, got the best vibes from, and liked the event coordinater the best.
We had made up our minds and I felt good, then calling to actually put the money down and confirm I felt a little panicked. I have no idea why, maybe it was jsut because now that there is a date (and the first real $ spent) it feels so concrete and real...
Congrats lemntwist!!!!!! that's a first big step.... I've now learned from experience that you can never get something arranged too soon!!! trust me, don't wait until the last minute for anything!! I've got 4 1/2 months left and really thought I was doing great with all the planning.... my coordinator has been out of town with a family emergency... she called to explain and told me that we were good with everything.... all I had to do was get my bridesmaids to the shop and pick out what they would be wearing.... I about fell over when the saleslady looked at my wedding date and said "oh my, we'll have to order next week to have these in time".... I about fell over since I really wasn't expecting to have to decide everything so fast... I really hate being rushed about major stuff like that!!! But luckly the saleslady was extremely nice and helpful and my bridesmaids actually picked something out and agreed on it... and I approve!! we were there for just about an hour and I'm really happy with the dresses we picked!! My coordinator is back in town now.... Thank God!!!! and we're going to sit down next week to make sure we aren't behind on anything else... just to set my nerves at ease!!!!!
How's everyone else's plans coming? everyone has been so quiet on here lately!!
I know I feel so much better that it's done, but I know there is still a lot to do! I am going to try my best to stay ahead... but sometimes it's so hard. I am thinking of going back to school to finish up my degree, J thinks I should, but I don't know if I can handle everything. I quit last time because I was super stressed out going to night classes, then doing homework, papers, projects, on the weekends, then work all week. I was kinda grumpy. So... I think I should wait, but supposedly this is going to take 5 years (part time). J thinks if I wait another year, it's going to be much harder. Hmmm...
I just don't know how people do all this and take care of their kids! (i don't have any - yet) I really admire those moms who can do it!
Hi everyone - where did all the brides to be go?????
We need to stick together - especially with the holidays coming up!
Hey Everyone!
I'm a bride who's playing the maintenance game. I'm not looking to lose any weight (I did all of that a few years ago) but I am trying to stay exactly the size as when I ordered my dress. I was pretty much the exact measurements of the size that I ordered, so I'd like to stay that way and save some alteration money :).
My wedding is June 21, 2008.
Can I be in the group too? I have struggled with weight my whole life. I always fell off the wagon because my motivation was always pure vanity! I recently realized that every major day of my life has been tarnished by the fact that I felt self conscious about how I looked so fat! The final turning point was when I went to buy a wedding dress and they couldn't even get some of the dresses on me! I had to order a size 20!
My Wedding Day is Sept. 20, 2008
My Stats: Highest: 230, Current: 184, Goal: 140
I am down 25 pounds since I went wedding dress shopping but I still have a long way to go and could use some support and encouragement along the way!
Let's all keep up the good work, girls!
(And, CONGRATULATIONS to everyone!!)
Welcome to Viczan and Damsell300!!
I haven't been on CC in a couple of months due to family issues, but I'm back now.... and with only 2 1/2 months to go before the wedding!!!! Yikes!!!
Viczan - Good luck with the maintenance.... sounds like you've been doing great the last few years, so it shouldn't be too difficult..... plus the costs of alterations should be plenty of incentive to keep you on track!!!
Damsell300 - Seriously... Please don't stress so much about the size of your gown... from personal experience, most gowns run really small anyways.... and once you get it on, no one is going to know what size it is so don't stress about it... it's just a number.... as long as the dress makes you feel beautiful that's all that should matter.... I did a lot of shopping before ordering my gown and it was the next to last one I tried on and I knew it the moment I stepped in front of the mirror cause I started crying so hard I couldn't even see myself!!! talk about an emotional moment!!! lol
as I said before, I've only got 2 1/2 months to go and I honestly haven't lost ANY weight like I was planning to
... well maybe about 5 pounds, but it's not like anyone can really tell..... I've also worried about looking like a fat cow on my special day, but I've had to make myself understand that I've always been overweight so as long as I keep working at moving in the right direction I'm on the right track..... for me, it's more of a mental thing and learning to accept myself for who I am is the first step I have to overcome.....
I wish everyone lots of luck in reaching your goals!!!!!
quick question for everyone..... since we're paying for the entire wedding and reception ourselves, money is obviously tight.... does anyone have any ideas on cheap (and I mean like less than $10 cheap) gifts for the groomsmen? We got my bridesmaids necklace and earring sets real cheap from this great website I found (they are gorgeous!!!!), but we can't come up with any ideas for the guys... any thoughts? by the way, we can't go with anything alcohol or tobacco related since my hubby-to-be is an ordained reverend.....
I got engaged in August and we are planning a destination wedding in Cozumel for January 2009. I have year to get into great shape! Mexico does involve a bathing suit. I don't have a lot of weight to lose, but would like to be 10-15 pounds lighter and a lot more toned.
Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress.
Lori
Hi tootsiegirl579 - I'm 25 and getting married in June 2008! I want to be at my goal by mid April b/c that's when my last fitting is going to be.
My starting weight was 186 or so and I'm down to 159. I'd be happy at 130 or 125 for April! BTW beautiful dress!
i just wrote a long post and everything got deleted! arghhh! sometimes computers are so frusterating!
good to see some active brides in here again! welcome and congrats!
vicki~ sounds like you have everything under control with the dress, how is rest of the planning going?
damsell~ you can do it now that you have the motivation for the 'big day'! who cares about the number on the size, as long as it fits nicely! Wow, so another 40 lbs, how will that affect the dress alterations? you have enough time to get down there!
Hi MrsKeith! i'm glad you're back, don't worry too much, after all at least you have lost rather than gained, that is a small victory! As for the gifts, that's hard - what about a bag for the gym, maybe with their names on it?
lori~ mexico will be awesome! i've never been i'm really jelous! You have plenty of time to get in great shape for the wedding! what are your workouts like? any weights?
scarter~ 30lbs by april is doable, but you'll have to work your butt off! You can do it if you stay on track! Your puppy is super cute - I can't wait until i have a yard so I can get a dog too!
MrsKeith: How about a nice engraved money clip? You could even put their initials on it or even do them all the same with the date for the wedding and a thank you.
Question for all you girls: Where are you going on your honeymoons?
