Bride Buddies
I hurt my neck/shoulder last week so I haven't been able to do too much as far as exercise. I tried getting on my eliptical but at 10 minutes it was making me hurt to much to continue. It kind of sucks as this was a very active weekend and I couldn't partake in any of it. I am starting to feel better so hopefully I can start working out again soon. I have been really watching my calorie intake so I didn't go overboard with food.
You ladies all sound like you are doing great, keep it up! I have been setting mini goals to give me something closer to be motivated for. It seems to be working for me so I thought I would pass on the idea. I have a girls weekend away March 7-9 with mom's, aunts, sisters and cousins from both sides as well as my maid of honor. I used that as the "first big wedding event" motivator. Then in April I have my bridal shower and I want to feel good then too. Set a date or function each month to work towards so it isn't overwhelming to have a far off date to work to.
scarter ~ wow, that's just what you need, huh? If it were me I would first make it clear how many people from the other sides are coming. Then *hopefully* if she has respect for your wishes, she'll trim her list on her own. If she has no shame or really can't take the hint, you'll prob have to have your guy come out and tell her gently, 'we were expecting you to invite closer to 15 people'. (or whatever #). If she's reasonable she'll do it for you two! If not, well you have to decide whether it's worth fighting over.
good luck working it out :)
my side of the family is huge compared to my fiance's - I'm lucky they all like each other (for the most part). I would love for things to be more even or for us to be able to have a smaller wedding, but hey it just ain't gonna happen!
hi strythms!
Hey Ladies,
I'm joining your forum. Getting married in october 08, and as of today have 11 pounds to lose. I am going to wear my mom's dress, updated by a friend who does coutour, so i'll have a little chance to get a smaller! anyway, just here for the love and support!
Ok, i'm posting a pic of me in the dress in one second under my profile. the long sleeves and high neck is pretty hideous...all that is going, and being replaced with a sexy but not too sexy halter type that will be made from the detachable train from the original dress (my mom's mom made it) and then covered in really pretty lace. so exciting.
My goal is to eventually get married and for now, my goal is related to a trip planned to Los Angeles and Vegas. We are going May 24th, and I would like to be at 165, down from a today of 180.
( :
Hi icarusfae ~ that is really very cool that you're wearing your mom's dress, part II. I bet she's super excited for you! I need a friend who can work magic like that - I wish I knew how to sew stuff. Can't wait to see more pics when it's done! I'm October too - the 18th!
hey Olivia ~ what's the occasion for Vegas? that should keep the motivation up, thinking of hanging by the pool and dressing up for the clubs/ casinos!
I am going to Colorado for a ski trip and some of my fiancees friends are coming from england to meet us! so my mom wants me to try on her dress while i'm there. At first I said no, beacuse she was pretty slim and was doing aerobics all the time back then, so I was pretty sure I would NOT squeeze my butt in there. But she talked me into it and I want to do it for her, so we'll see... maybe losing 15 is enough that it won't be toooo embarrassing.
I'm gonna try and be good without CC for a week... wish me luck!
I did get out and get some exercise, wogged for half an hour. I got about 4 blocks from home and found a whole $1 on the sidewalk. Someone knew I needed a pick me up. ( : lol
Our trip to Vegas and LA was an Xmas gift actually -- how lucky are we??? I have never been either place, but the bf lived in both places with his TV camera-person sister. I can;t wait..
Anyone been there? Tips, place to go (or avoid)? ( :
I live in orange county and have done the LA touristy thing every time someone comes to visit. The walk of stars is something you have to do, but you probably won't really be impressed. It's kinda cool to see the mann theatre where they do the Oscars and all that and see the hand prints, but everything else is kinda run down or cheesy. There is a new outdoor mall area where you'll prob spend some time. Seeing the studios and getting into the audience on a TV show is fun - there's always people trying to get you in one. The universal city walk thing you can skip, tho. Sunset Blvd at night to hit up some clubs is must do. santa Monica is nice to walk around and see the boardwalk and the beach! the getty museum is cool! downtown la sucks - nothing to see unless your interested in the Frank Geary concert hall.
hmmmmm - there's a lot more, what else are you thinking of???
yes! live music, art, or other museums, jazz, shopping is always fun ---- cute clothes at basement prices? thrift stores? souvenir shops?
definitely going to the beach!!! --- = my interest in getting swimsuit ready!!!!! ( :
live music is every where in LA - that's one of the greatest things. check out the LA weekly once you get there or look here if you want to check things out ahead of time: http://www.casenet.com/concert/concert.html I love seeing shows, just hate the driving all around town for them... but i live in the southern not happenin so much part.
if you like art def the Getty (up on a cliff above LA) or the MOCA (in downtown) both have loads of cool stuff.
shopping is easy if you have the benjamins, otherwise it's just browsing. go to rodeo drive if you want to be digusted and fascinted at once. there are nice boutiques nearby me in OC, but i don't really know of any in LA area. Souvienr shops are plastered over all the beach towns, there are some funny ones on hollywood blvd too.
beaches! wahoo! go to santa monica or manhattan for people watching. go to malibu if you have time - not the nicest to swim at but pretty and you might see a celeb (if you care). if you want to try surfing come down to huntington or bolsa chica! if you want a really pretty beach area come all the way down to lauguna beach!
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions with the future in-laws, things ended up working out fine! I'm 3 1/2 months from the wedding and getting soo excited! So, we've (my fiance and I) have decided to not drink alcohol for a month. It's day 3 today and I don't usually drink during the week anyway so this weekend will be the real test. I'm sick of drinking all those empty calories and then eating crap. My fitting is in a month so I'm hoping this will help me lose more quickly.
For those of you that need to get your dresses altered more than just a bottom hem, have you been told any price range on how much it might cost. I know it'll prob. be different depending on location but the corset top part of my dress will need to be taken in, which is technically a good thing b/c I've lost, but I'm trying to look at some sort of price range. I'm getting it done at David's Bridal too, all they said is usually they run somewhere starting around $60 (and i'm sure that's just for a hem!) Thanks!
gosh, scarter, you and your puppy are adorable! Keep up with your resolution to not drink -- I KNOW if I did that, I would lose faster too....... hmmmmmmmm, something to try. ( ;
It cost the last bride I was close to nearly $200, but she lost all over and it had to be drastically altered....
I took some "time off' form CC for a bit ~ I was getting too stressed out and just needed to eat 'normally' for a while. I'm happy to say that I didn't gain during my little break, and I still exercise regularly. I felt that even if I wasn't counting calories, doing 50 crunches a day couldn't hurt :)
Well, now IT"S ON...I'm getting fitted for my gown on May 16th, so I have 2 months to get down to the size I'm going to be and then try to maintain until the wedding in August ~ I won't be too upset if I lose more, but I don't want to have to spend too much on alterations ~ I'd rather keep more of the budget for 'fun stuff' :)
Hi guys! good to see some people back in here - I also took some time off of counting, although I gained!!! Ahh so I'm trying to get back on track, but I am taking a huge exam in less than a month and I am really focused on studying and have no time for exersize (dorky, huh?). I keep telling mysefl I'll start again once the test is over, but damn I'm gonna have hard time with maintenance if this is any sign.
Oliva ~ if you need any other specifics as you trip gets closer let me know! I know vegas pretty well too - I love Vegas and am getting married there!
Scarter ~ yes alcohol is key! I had a pledge not to drink til st patty's day, and I pretty much made it (one sat of drunkeness) but it would be much easier my fiancee was in on it! I'm gonna keep it up for one more month, till after my test then I'm goning out to celebrate!
Tygrkat ~ props to you for keeping stable that's really great!
your weddings are coming up so soon - so exciting!
I'm not even getting married. I just love the OP, tootsie, and I was getting ready to be a bridesmaid when she first posted. (blush) don;t kick me out.
Just me, but I usually focus better after I exercise / get some of that stress/anxiety out in a more positive forum.... =P even a walk......
Olivia77 ~ Thanks! My puppy's name is Boston, she's the sweetest thing! I've been really good about cutting waay back on alcohol still. When I have a drink, it'll usually be a half glass of wine and the other half club soda or some kind of sparkling water. I tend to drink and eat whatever's in front of me quickly, so cutting alcohol with something calorie free is great and it's like a spritzer (diet ginger ale is really good too) Thanks for the quote of $200, I figured it might be somewhere around there, hopefully not more. Though I'm not going to complain, better to take it in, then to take it out!
Tygrkat ~ I took some time away from CC too. I didn't gain, just kind of stayed put. I scheduled my fitting too, it's this month - two weeks away - eech. Good luck on meeting your goal for your fitting. I probably wont' meet mine but it's better than me gaining before it.
lemntwist~don't worry about the gain, i'm sure you'll get right back on track. I've noticed that the couple of times that I kind of 'fell off the wagon' it got easier to get right back into the swing of things. I try to think of it being a complete change of life so I'll never go back to how I used to eat, but once in awhile you've gotta splurge a little or you'll go crazy! I will at least!
Yay, I'm so exceited about this forum!! I'm getting married Sept. of this year, I bought my dress back in January and left it at the store for storage (I live with my fiance and a wiley cat neither of whom I want to get their paws on it....) And now, four months and twenty pounds later, I'm AFRAID to go get it... because I know it won't fit me. So, the question is, half way to my wedding, can I take off the weight as quickly as I put it on?! Four months to go down 20 LBs. The thing is, in january I'd just reached my goal, I'd lost 60 lbs.... and I was so excited about the timing, since all my family and friends I hadn't seen in how long were going to be here... unfortunately, the way I lost (strict, STRICT diet control and no excercize) made it impossible to keep up longterm. Grr... So, here's my attempt at doing this ina healthy sustainable way... Whilst dealing with the tremendous stress of the whole wedding thing....
Welcome taparapa ~ If you have only 20lbs. to lose before September, you're in great shape! I would suggest finding something that you love for exercise and not trying to find the quickest way to burn 1000 calories or something.
I've lost 12 lbs. in the past three months (and 40 total overall). I haven't been seriously dieting lately, not really giving 100% effort. I watch what I eat for the most part but I could've done SOOO much better if I applied myself. I like to walk and it's easy, so I walk probably 45 minutes, 5 times a week, so if you just find something you love to do for exercise (because you'll be doing it almost everyday) and just try easy things, like switching to most foods to low fat or fat free (cheese, cream cheese, milk, egg beaters are great!, etc.) and you'll be really surprised how just that, combined with exercise, will drop the numbers on the scale quickly! Aim for 2lbs. a week and you should surpass your goal in less than three months! Good luck, you can definitely do it if you apply yourself. I need to heed my own advice and kick it up a notch b/c my wedding's next month!
