Weight Loss

Gossip of the day: Supposedly Britney Spears was losing a pound a day working on her dance routines these past few weeks. Now obviously she'd been pretty sedentary up until recently, plus post baby weight drops off fairly easily... but is this inspiration or cause for concern? If you really have a good bit of weight to drop, how fast can you drop at the beginning? I know 1-2 pounds a week is safe, but if you're just doing intense cardio (dancing for hours on end) and drop your baby weight/ sedentary gain is it really that bad for you?
What do you think, regardless of it being B-Spears or whoever (I'm not trying to start a discussion on her personally, I could care less)?
EDIT: Ok we all know how easy it is to lose when you're not adequately hydrated or fed (EDIT 2: or getting operated on)... and that's not healthy... but that's not what I'm asking... we have no idea what she was or was not drinking and eating: I'm asking, if adequately nourished, can you seriously work out to the tune of a one pound loss per day?

god
how long did she work out for every day?
i would think a pound a day is tough stuff if youre actually eating something.

I've been counting calories sine 4/12/07 and have dropped 13 lbs since then so that's almost 15 lbs in 3 weeks which is almost 5lbs a week so that would be about 1 lb/weekday. But I've been working out ALOT and I'm normally one of those who gets home, showers, into jammies and then veg-out on the couch until bed time and the only walking I did was around the house or around the office.
I think, if you've got alot to lose, it falls off quickly in the beginning.
Someone like B.Spears (a waste of space/oxygen if you ask me) has personal trainers and does real high impact stuff and probably had a nutritionist helping her out with that. I would be concerned if it were any average person, but her, Pshhhh... I couldn't care less if she dropped dead tomorrow.
If your asking if this is something you could do - I feel like, as long as I eat more than 1200 cal/day and I know that I'm eating healthy - the more that falls off the better for me. I've been carrying this weight around FAR too long.
hope I helped. :)

Get this, there is a world record swimmer, I forgot her name however she swam for 2 days straight....she lost 25 pounds in two days. So alot of exercise will do something to ya!
I lost 7 pounds after a half marathon (3.5 hours) but of course it came back overnight once I hydrated. But BSpears has actually toned up a bit, not just losing water weight. Whatever she's doing is working, but is it reasonable if you have the time and the drive and the personal staff, haha?
obviously she forgot to eat enough. stupid. quit dancing, start eating, regain the weight.
maybe it's hair weight.....
sorry couldn't resist.
sorry couldn't resist.
it's her job to be thin, you know? she like....gets paid to look good. If we spent 40 hours + a week doing that, with that staff, we'd all be able to do it to....
shannonbuell, I would love to have my own set of personal trainers, cooks, and dieticians to work with me.
So basically with proper intense and diligent effort and safety precautions: trainers and adequate, but most likely seriously limited, nutrition-- that amount of time really could reap those immediate results? We agree??
not healthy, i know it isnt. she should be eating more to help fuel herself better. she is going to passout one of these days.
that fast is too fast, when i lost too fast i changed my eating so i wouldnt, cause i want to keep it off and be healthy.

A pound of fat is 3500 calories
To burn that many calories would require the equivallent of riding a bicycle at around 13 miles per hour for 60 miles which would take over 4 hours.
I'm sure she's dropping a lot of water weight just by drinking plenty of water and so on... but I can't see how whatever she is doing is very safe. And lose skin at that rapid a weightloss could be an issue too since it wont' have time to adjust as much during that kind of descent.
EDIT: I had the time wrong... but it's fixed now.

You also have to remember that if she is loosing a pound doing her dance routine, it is mostly all water (sweat) and that she probably put a lot of it back on after that.
Heavy weight boxer loose nearly a pound a round, and we know that it is not fat.
You need to be careful when you hear things like that.
Just a thought

Maybe she has just developed a meth habit with all the partying she is doing. I hear it makes the weight just fall off! Of course it also destroys your entire body and your brain, but that is the price we pay for beauty!
Sorry that was mean of me. I just have little patience for people like her.

i read that she had plastic surgery tummy tuck etc
Doubtful she would be doing such vigourous performances right after invasive surgery.
Let's keep this to what we reasonably know- we know she's been at Millenium dance studio day and and day out for two weeks or more for hours on end...

Apparently she's been photographed coming out of a plastic surgery office. Lipsuction, perhaps?
who knows.. who cares..
I mean, I feel really sorry for most actors and actresses.. that is what extreme pressure will do for almost anyone. I would hate for people to go around scrutinizing every single thing I did... I know most of you will say that is the price of fame, but c'ome on... WHO CARES.. She is just trying to live her life like the rest of us..

she's allegedly been undergoing treatments which "dissolve" the fat from you through injections. i.e. no invasive surgery. this as well as eating sushi and doing vigorous dance training.
well I give her props because for three years she actually wasn't under any pressure to get thin- she's not on tour, she's not promoting an album (granted it appears this is all coming soon) It's not like those girls out promoting movies. She injured her knee, got married, had kids, and gained some weight. I think the only pressure is coming from herself trying to get back in fighting shape.
Courtney Love also quickly dropped alot of weight recently after a swift gain... but I haven't really heard how she did it...
I'm not pro-Spears/Love... I'm just trying to figure out if it's true/reasonable to dedicate hours a day to dropping weight via intense workouts (and proper diet)... Does hard work pay off quickly? If so, how quick is reasonable for someone with unlimited time and resources?

I personally have lost 16 pounds over the course of a year and then some, so it's slowly been coming off (In the beginning, it was just by eating better, not workint out though) and I liked it coming off slowly in a bit because my friends (Who are really fit) told me I could be sure it'll stay off. Well I started working out four months ago and I lost one or two more pounds, bringing me down to like 161, but I was doing weight training mostly and I eventually went back up to 162 due to the weight of the muscle (Or that's what some people said might be the cause, I do actually feel 'stronger'), so whatever I did I didn't seem to be able to go sub-160 (Or 160 at all for that matter haha).
Well I found this site last Saturday and started to 'estimate calories' since then (Not count, I think it's too much work haha) and now I'm eatin a lot better than I already was, I randomly checked my weight (I hadn't before because I thought I was still at 162 since I had been for quite some time) and I noticed I was at 160 WITH shoes and all, I know the shoes might not even make much of a difference but hey :P
Anyways I thought that was really cool but I read that 1-2 pounds weekly was healthy, I think I'm at a rate just a bit over that, I'm not even sure if I can call that a rate though since I'm barely in the first week, I'll have to see by the third.
