Any women here with broad shoulders? The introverted triangular shape? apple shape?
when you get really thin do they look less broad? I know when I gain weight my shoulders look broader. I'm 5'8 and hoping to get down to 130 so my shoulders will look very small
I have fairly broad shoulders and I actually think that it's better to have nice broad shoulders that make you look like you have good posture, then it is to have rounded little hunchy looking shoulders.
You may lose some fat to make them look less bulky, but I don't think they will look much less broad, broad shoulders have more to do with skelletal structure than anything else. I wouldn't go about trying to lose weight UNTIL you're happy with your shoulders, I don't think that's a very good bench mark.
Check out tall statuesque women...generally they have nice straight (broad) shoulders...
okay, it's just that i don't feel very feminine with broad shoulders ya know. people always try to make it seem as if we are less feminine
Only dumb people. Strong women look good.

Losing weight won't change your skeleton. If anything, losing weight will make your shoulders look larger in proportion.
Try weight training! That will make your shoulders more sculpted = sexy ;)
I just wanted to comment saying I am also 5'8" with broad shoulders and I want to get down to 130 lbs.
I don't have a problem with them though. I've just learned to choose my clothing to make them seem smaller. For example, I don't wear strapless clothing very often. Instead, I wear halter tops.
I am a total inverted triangle/apple. I am 5'6 and I have very large bones. When I weighed 155 I looked great, and I felt great. People still told me things like "you aren't a dainty woman" or said I would never be "petite"...but, whatever...I have really great legs and I am strong enough to do whatever I want. I even think you can weigh a little more and still look pretty great with this shape :)
teammalone, have you ever gotten below 155? like around 130lbs? what did you look like then?
I have broad shoulders. Even at my thinnest I wear at least a large shirt to accomodate my shoulders. I always thought they were one of my sexiest features.
I did get to 135...which was VERY hard, and unhealthy for me (just me.....) I thought I still looked like a "bigger" girl, but when I look at pics from them I cannot believe how TEENY I looked. I still had broad shoulders and "biggish" arms. Medium shirts were very tight on me still.
One good thing about big shoulders is that they make your waist look smaller in comparison! I'm a pretty pronounced pear shape (store fat on my hips/thighs) but having broad shoulders helps balance that out a bit.
when a 5'8" broad shoulder person gets thin (120 ) the shoulders still remain broad but i think they just seem more bone-y looking.
i also find broad shoulders more attractive as it makes hips or stomach appear smaller.
I'm 5'9", broad-shouldered like all of us. Bones ARE bones. But without the extra fat on top of the bones/muscles, my shoulders are smaller - I can tell by how my XXL tank top straps eventually fell off my shoulders, and now how the XL tank top straps are getting loose. They also look smaller because there's less fat on the surrounding tissue: The collarbones start peeking out, the breasts are cups instead of bowls running over - I think I look much more delicate than I did before.
And yes yes, I agree about strong woman and all that. I am never going to be dainty - my body and my personality are powerful enough that I don't need any extra support in that area - I like the balance of strength and subtlety - I'm really diggin' the collarbones!
paris hilton is really thin now and she has broad shoulders, while she isn't dainty she does look model-esq.
trust me, guys love "back abs" lol. and i LOVE my broad shoulders. they make my boobs look bigger haha. im tall and i have long legs also , 5'10" so i think I carry myself well. Strapless is totally the way to go, collarbones, long graeful neck and shoulder lines are also very sexy. work what you have! Confidence is KEY :)

So deck em when they say that...
That'll show them....
Seriously, I have the same body shape (broad shoulders, slim hips--underneath all the fat that is, lol--athletic legs and not much waist definition)....when I was, ahem, younger and leaner and was into sports I had the sort of typical athletic style body...like Madonna... (currently I look more like a slimmer Kathy Bates)
I now appreciate the athletic look, but I did not when I was younger and all my friends looked "womanly" with hips/butt/big boobs etc. (course I use to not be as envious when I watched them attempt sports where it seemed all those curvy parts got in the way big time)....
Strong women look hot... I don't think its any more feminine to look all pear shaped or hour glassed... simply a different 'style' of woman... Just as I think my very slim husband looks masculine despite not being all muscled up....
Rock those shoulders....
I have broad shoulders too!! If u can believe it, most guys like that look. Makes me look sporty and gives me more confidence. I have slightly big arms too. I maintain my arms by doing lift ups on the couch. Sit on the edge of the couch, then lift your body up by your arms, grasping onto the edge of the couch. Slowly bring down your body to the ground, not touching the ground though, then slowly lift yourself back up. I do 3 reps of 15, breaks in between, per day. This actually defines my arms and shoulders!!!!Try it out for 2wks, i saw a difference.
I have broad shoulders and since gaining weight have definitely felt more self-conscience about them, but mostly because my arms are bigger and my back looks broader. It's true they are part of your frame and will never look that much smaller but with arms toned and back toned and less weight on them so they have more definition, I don't think it's so bad. I got A LOT of compliments from people when I was thinner about my shoulders and arms because they looked so strong and fit. I look forward to them being a point of pride again:)

^^^ yup! With the shoulders and pear, my waist is more pronounced just by comparison. I never noticed it before becoming overweight and even when I was several 100 lbs overweight. Now Im aware of them and looking at older photos, see it then too.
I hear 'big-boned' - I dont know that anybody is but Im wide framed like my dad was, even in the hips. At 200 lbs, Ive still a gap between my thighs.
Where broad shoulders look unattractive is when you round them to try to make them look smaller. Think of the swagger you saw in the actresses of the old 40's era film where they actually used pads to create larger shoulders. You usually also saw a beautiful graceful movement as they walked because inevitably their posture was tall and straight.
You know, we are constantly being bombarded with messages about what is not feminine. I am short with big bones, big feet, broad shoulders slim hips and "healthy hair" on my arms. When I was growing up it all came together to make me feel ultra unfeminine. Many years later, 7 children later, several pounds and a wonderful husband, I have discovered that those traits are not what do or do not make me feminine. Ignore the "sexy" messages. Be fit, be happy with what you have been given and know that the confidence of being a good person is more attractive than your bone structure.
It's ok to have to broad shoulders. I love mine! Weird thing is though its mostly tall women who have this, or is that wrong? I'm 5' 5" which is not that tall, but definitely not short. I do wish that I was more like a 34C, not 34B (damn). But like the stones said, you can't always get what you want. Then I found out that these celebs have broad shoulders: Jessica Biel, Cameron Diaz, Megan Fox, Charlize Theron, Sophia Bush, and Angelina Jolie. So yay! lol. So not only do I love my broad shoulders, but the long legs that come with it.
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
