I thought it was a cool little thing to share. He is head chef at a fancy restaurant in our city and Obama came there after church and he cooked him salmon with rild rice and veggies.

No wonder he is so skinny!

He asked for my brother to cook specifically because he was told he is such a good chef!He got to meet him and talk to him for a while. I thought it was pretty neat that he gets to say he cooked for him!

Cool.  I wish I had such a direct Obama connection :)

That's so cool!  I think it's awesome that Obama is so healthy, I can't believe the media knocks him around for it-- we don't need a leader to reflect the obesity epidemic!

cool.  and yummy!  can your brother cook lunch for me?

then you would love my brother. He has been a chef in all sorts of places and met alot of celebrities doing it. He used to fish with Keanu Reeves, hang out with Ludacris, had drinks with Ben Stiller....all sorts of crazy stuff like that

cool! did your brother go to culinary school? if so where? (im currently at the Culinary Institute of America!)

That is really cool!  Thanks for sharing and kudos to your brother on his successful career.

Nope he didn't go to culinary school. He started cooking in Key West when he was 18 and has been cooking in all sorts of places since. He is 26 now.

I figured you were speaking of some type of fund raiser.

This past summer I unbelievably got to meet my two favorite celebs (Elton & L.Nimoy) and the only famous person left is Obama - I am so envious of you bro!

I shook Obama's hand in Birmingham, AL last year. But I didn't get to cook a meal for him or have an extended discussion with him.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little green with envy Tongue out

He's a politician AND a celebrity. Can you really argue that he's not at a celebrity status?

He is famous with much notoriety yes, I just cringe at the word celebrity. He is a public servant who we are deciding whether to bestow the privilege of being in charge of us all. He needs to be tested, scrutinized and accountable, not some venerable demigod to be enamored with just cause he walked into a room.

I think it ROCKS that your brother got to cook for Obama.  :o)  And I completely agree, it's nice to see a leader who is setting such good examples for his kids, as well as kids all over the world who look up to him.

As for his celebrity status?  There's a negative connotation with the word "celebrity" based on what we see in newspapers, tabloids, etc. (Not that tabloids are a good source of news, because they're not, I'm just making an example.)
The word itself comes from the Latin word, "celebritas," which means "fame."  I think it would be silly to say that Obama DOESN'T have a lot of that.  He's the most watched man in the world right now and will continue to be for a while.  That does not mean that he won't be scrutinized, tested, his "celebrity" is his fame.  (Don't we criticize "celebrities" --as in Hollywood folks-- all the time?)

Cool!  Now I'm hungry for rice.. :)
