Browsing this site is so funny...

It just seems like every single post, someone asks a question, raises a concern, explains an accomplishment, or SOMETHING, only to receive everyone else saying "YOU HAVE TO EAT MORE! YOU'RE STARVING!!" I realize I'm guilty of eating too little; as soon as I started counting calories, I got in the mindset that I could secretly eat about 300 less than what was recommended on this site because "I'm probably not that active" or "maybe it's not that accurate," and admittedly, I definitely noticed the repercussions of "starvation mode." So I suppose in general it's good to nag people to eat more - but it is inevitable that on a website like this, people are going to want to eat less. That's usually our first impulse when it comes to dieting.

The thing is, I feel like if I didn't know this website existed, I would be in starvation mode anyway. I think most of my friends must be in starvation mode. Hitting that high of a number - 1700, 1800 - actually requires me consciously saying "oh, well I guess I have to eat MORE!" because most of what I eat is healthy and naturally low in calories. So does this mean that most healthy people are walking around constantly in starvation mode? I think if I weren't counting, I would probably average out to about 1400 every day, and yes, I am an active teenage girl.

Normal people wouldn't go into starvation mode because every now and then they overeat and overindulge.
Is that enough to take you out of starvation mode? Because I definitely overeat almost every weekend. You're right, it's unavoidable when you go out.

exactly!

it's like that one bodybuilding article about the girl who hardly ate anything all week but overindulged on weekends, and was stuck at an overweight BMI.. or whatever.
besides that, I honestly have seen that all the particularly thin girls at my school are the ones who eat a heck of a lot. At the other end, I've seen overweight girls [including my former self] skip meals and try to eat less.
just a thought..

I thought it was because there seem to as many people with eating disorders on CC as there are people with garden-variety weight-loss problems.

Maybe that's it, but my point was kind of that it seems like for a lot of people, cutting calories is too easy; one of the harder parts is making sure you're eating enough.
