I have recently done some weight lifting (squats) with dumbells and I had really bad pain on the top of my thighs after a couple hours. It's been a couple days and I'm still in a lot of pain. I noticed there is some mild bruising on both of my thighs on the top. Why would this happen?
that was normal if you overtrained your muscles.. did you notice some mild inflammation on your thighs?
you can just an ice on it for 20 minutes a day til 3 days..:) take care..
I don't know about visible bruising... but squats/lunges are murder on your thigh muscles - they're meant to be, because you're lifting your entire bodyweight unsupported, plus the dumbells. It's normal for your thighs to be extremely sore for a few days after you start exercising new muscles. Take it easy and don't try to do the same exercise again until they don't hurt any more.

It sounds to me, like you do have some slight muscle tearing, which isn't unusual, especially if you didn't loosen up, before you started. Ice them, and maybe skip one leg day, and you should be fine. Just be sure, before you train legs, to do a few minutes of cardio, to get loose. And don't do a lot of stretching. That just makes things worse, IMO.
I used to work at UPS and I had a lot of bruises on the tops of my thighs from lifting.
However it was not from lifitng itself.... it was from balancing wieght on my thigh above my knee. Are you sure that when you are taking on and putting on wiehgts you are not balancing the wieghts on your thigh? Becuase you will get bruises fast from doing that.
Other than that if it is not that, then most likely you have torn a blood vessel in your leg. It can happen easily enough... I know guys who have tore them in their chests after trying to benchpress quite a bit of weight.
Try uping your vitamin C and Calcium intake. It helped me to heal and ward off future bruises (no matter what the origin).
if your muscle has been strained /torn
you MUST give it a while to rest
otherwise you will do it again ... and again.. until it's so messed you have permenant damage to the muscle that wont recover
if its bruised it sounds like its definately torn...
ice it for 20 mins every 4 hours for the first couple of days
then keep it warm
when it feels better give it half as long as it took to feel good till you use it again
gutting i know, but at the same time you could be 10 times the length out
apparantly mild cardio can help recovary as it gives a nice flow of blood to the muscle also
