Bubble tea! Who loves it?
Hey, guys!
If you're reading this, you're probably a fellow bubble/boba/tapioca tea addict. I haven't had one since I went to visit my sister in Boston...I guess that was June...and before that, I hadn't had one in months!
Anyway. I wish I could incorporate these into my diet, but a boba milk tea has, like, 400 calories! I would probably just get a "normal" tea with some boba in it...but where's the fun in that? :P
Anybody else love it?
Liz :D

Yes. =( I absolutely love those milky sweet drinks with the tapioca bubbles... but I find it hard to waste 400 cals on a silly drink! Honestly, if I'm wasting 400 cals, it's going to be on something like brownies or ice cream, ya know?
TOTALLY. I had two green bean smoothies with tapioca (one had jelly actually), but I think it was only good while I was visiting my sister. I would never splurge on that at home! If I want 400 calories, amen, it's gon' be chocolate. ;)

I have to admit they kinda freak me out....the whole chance of bubble-induced asphyxiation and everything...
What's a good bubble tea shop in Boston?

Oh, jeez. What was the name. Now you're quizzing me, here, Erik. OH!
Bubble T Zone or something like that. It's off Dorcester Ave. http://www.bubbletzone.com/
My friend, Adamo, told me about this place that has crepes and bubble tea, though. Can't remember where it is, even. I know it was kind of a hike for him, since he's in Braintree.
Bubble T Zone was a really small hole-in-the-wall type place...but I liked it a lot. Went to this other place for bubble tea, and didn't like it so much. It was "trendier", but they didn't serve it up authentically. Anyway. Hope that helps. I'm just a simple Midwestern girl. :P

Oh right, cool, I'll check that out!
Only place I've been to actually is one near Harvard Square. They have old-skool board games there, like Connect 4!

Never heard of it.
Ooh, Erik, I'm in Boston (ok, Cambridge, whatever) for the summer... Try TeaLuxe or Dado tea. Both in Harvard Square, and both are brilliant. If you just want plain tea, TeaLuxe is THE place to go. They have a full menu of looseleaf teas, plus daily brewed iced teas, ready-brewed hot teas, and bubble teas. Dado tea has a good bubble tea selection, but not nearly as awesome a tea selection.
Can you tell I like my tea? =)

I've never heard of bubble tea. What is it? It sure sounds cool.
Any flavour of brewed tea (chai, black, green..anything!), mixed with some form of milk (whole, skim, or soy), plus some sweetener (sugar, honey, or substitute), and often some flavoured powder too (such as mango or lychee or some other fruit usually). It's then served with black tapioca balls in the bottom, all over ice. You get a neat-looking big straw to suck up the tapioca.
I guess that sounds really gross.... but honestly, they're tasty! mmmmm. =)

Cool! Thanks Tina I'll check 'em out...always been more of a coffee person myself but find myself more and more moving from the beans to the leaves recently :)
And...hi neighbor! I'm in Kendall Square and live in Central =)

I'd definitely recommend it. I'm *almost* not looking forward to going back home (to SK, Canada) because I don't know of any TeaLuxe-quality tea shops there!
...and hi back! I live kinda between Harvard Square and Porter Square, just off of Oxford. Working down by Kendall Square though, at MIT. It's crazy that I just happened to find this site one day on the so-called 'world wide web', and, lo and behold, you're only a few miles away from me. Small world... =)

Wow, I'm not sure if that sounds really good or gross. I guess I'll have to find somewhere to get it. There should be somewhere in Pittsburgh, I hope.
really good, dracodf, really good. =)
I love bubble tea. not the calories though. Dracodf, there HAS to be something in the 'Burgh. moved from there to Oregon... we have several bubble tea shops here, in salem....
I would guess that Oakland would be a good spot to look with all of the college students there.

Hmmm... Oakland is a good idea, I'll have to make a trip down there. I'm still slightly afraid of tapioca in my tea.
It's definitely an acquired taste at first. When I had it the first time, I didn't exactly like it. Or maybe I just didn't know what to think, really.
And now? Addicted. The second time I got it, I got a boba cappuccino (sweetened cappuccino with tapioca in the bottom), and I REALLY liked it. I was starting to get addicted, but I still didn't know exactly what to think of the tapioca.
Third time? Hooked.

hmmm... does anyone actually know how many calories are in just the tapioca?
Because I'm sure you could get it with skim milk (@ 90 cals/cup) and a substitute sweetener (@ 0 cals!) and no flavoured powder since the tea itself is usually flavour enough... then the real calorie contributor would be the tapioca.
Any clue, anyone? Because if I can custom-order a bubble tea that's under 200 or 150 cals I will be one happy camper. =)

i had my frist bubble tea exp. in Taiwan...I got through half of it...and that was enough for me.
the bubbles are kinda chewy, slightly sweet... kinda like a drink and a snack all in one. You either love it or hate it...
It depends on how much tapioca you get. I've heard that it's about 87 calories per serving.
