Congratulations momof2kd!  4 pounds is great.  Do you mind if I ask when you started?  I have the same starting weight of 290 and I just can't wait to be in the 250's!  I guess I just need to know it can happen in this lifetime. Laughing  Gracie

My weight loss journey thus far has been odd, to say the least. I started on July 13 of this year. At first, the loss was pretty fast, which scared me a little. Now, it seems to have slowed down a bit and I know it will slow down even more as I get closer to where I want to be. Each month, I seem to retain a lot of water the week before, during, and the week after my period. That leaves about one week within a month, in which I lose in larger blocks. This was that week. I actually keep a chart of it at home. Here is my loss record sine I started: (note that each weighin was done on a weekly basis. Never ever weigh daily!)

Date    Weight   Loss

7-18     290

7-25     288      -2

8-1       286      -2

8-8       284.5   -1.5

8-15     280      -4.5

8-22     278      -2

8-29     276.5   -1.5

9-5      273.25   -3.25

9-12    271.25  -2

9-19    268.5    -2.75

9-26    267.75  -0.75

10-3    267.5    -0.25

10-10  267.75  +0.25     (this week really freaked me out, heh. This was one of those hard weeks either before, during, or after my period. Just push through these.)

10-17  263      -4.75     (If you'll notice, this is one of the "big weeks" after my body's done with the period issue. A happy week, needless to say)

10-24  261    & nbsp; -2

10-31  260.5   -0.5

11-7    258.25 -2.25

11-14  254.25 -4.0

Admittingly, I started out for the first 2 months eating too little and exercising too much. This put my deficit at over -1000 per day. Don't do this! For the past 2 or 3 months, I've went up on my intake and it's at between -500 to -1000 calorie deficit per day, depending on the day and exercise. I've found that I'm losing -almost- as much now as I was before when averaged out and eating a healthy amount of food in order to fuel my exercise. Besides, if you lose too fast, I've heard there is a higher chance that you won't maintain the loss long term. This is another reason why I've purposely slowed myself down. I want to do this for life, not end up being a yo-yo dieter. I will say this though, I'll never be this much overweight again.

You've done wonderfully so far! Keep it up and be patient. Patience is key to weight loss.

Thank you so much for replying.  It gives me hope.  I read where other people have lost 30 pounds in one month and I am nowhere near that. Your way is definitley more sensible.  And I agree with you that I want to maintain this weight loss long term.  I am usually a very patient person, but this week has been hard.  I have stuck with the exercise but the food has not been easy this week.  I'll never be accused of eating too little. Embarassed  Congratulations on the 36 pound weight loss.  That is awesome.  Gracie

Hi folks, after reading ALL the posts on here, I'd really like to join this group.  Momof2kd, I relate to you because I joined CC this last week and weighed in at 290 lb, your starting weight.  Needless to say, you're inspiring me!  Iknowmychicken and victoriagirl, I loved reading your updates.  You've both done so amazing and it was so encouraging to read your progress, your joys and your struggles.  I think I noticed you two more just because you have photos so I find it easier to identify when I can put a face to the story.  If it's okay, I'd like to join in the Wednesday weigh-in's.  I'm so impressed with this site and many of the people in these forums / groups.  I need some help staying on track and feel this with help with my accountability.

My 'stats': Age: 37    Female: 5'6      Location: East coast of Canada

SD: 11/10/08    SW: 290      Mini GW: 250        GW: 180

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories for people like me to read and see that 'it' can be done.

Well, only 1 pound this week, but a loss is a loss.  And while I stuck with the exercising, I did not do as well with the eating.  But, I think I'm back on track with that.

Cindy, welcome.  You have found a great place.  People here are very supportive.

Hope everyone has a great week!  Gracie

The plateau finally broke, I am firmly below 250 now, yay! Just carrying on with life, no special attempts to break it...I figure my body needs time to adjust to these new low weights, I mean I am now losing fat that's over 15 years old! Plus...I want to enjoy being this size, before it's gone and onto a lower size yet. I want to savour the journey, feel good about every success instead of blasting through them. This is a mindset that is distinctly different from how I felt in the past - I always just wished I could be magically thin. I fantasized about being thin, never about the journey to get there. So this is cool.

First mini goal 250

I think you're wise to savour your current weight victoriagirl, we're often so anxious to see a new lower number that we bypass our mini goal numbers without truly appreciating them.  I started in May '07 at 350 lbs and got down to 268 by May '08 but am smaller in size / clothes now (Novmeber) then I was in May, even though I'm 15 lbs heavier!  I sometimes think it's better for our skin if we take our time.  I have family who have lost close to 200 lbs in a year and a half and are really struggling with loose skin whereas I don't find I'm having that problem; I think it may be because I gave my body time to catch up to the weight loss (although that wasn't my plan!!).  You're where I'd love to be victoriagirl and are truly an inspiration to many of us.  I appreciate everyone sharing their stories and updates.  Thanks for the welcome gracie, you're doing great!

Congratulations victoriagirl!  Oh, to be under 250.  And what a wonderful attitude you have.  I agree with Cindy, I think if you take it off slow and steady, you don't have so much loose skin to worry about.   Great job ladies!  Let's keep heading down the scale.  Gracie

It was an extremely emotional, difficult week, and yes there may have been some comfort eating involved. Turns out I am human. I am now getting back on track and proud that I made it through with only slight over-eating (two or three days of eating at maintenance or just over)...no reason to have gained a pound so I doubt it's more than just natural fluctuation.

I do want to make a commitment to be especially dilligent about creating a good deficit for these weeks leading up to xmas, though....I want to enjoy the holiday food (in moderation) without feeling guilty, I think it's ok to eat at maintenance for a few days as long as it's preceded by a month of good deficits. So here I go!

I agree with you vicgtoriagirl.  (and look how far you've come)  I am going to try to do very good this month and then just enjoy Christmas.  Hopefully not overdo it too much, but certainly want to enjoy it.  Good luck to everyone.

Better this week, but not great. I am having a hard time keeping my calories below 2000....it should not be so difficult! I have to try HARDER. Or start moving more.

Frown  I am the only person I know who can get through Thanksgiving and lose weight, only to gain it back the week after.  Yuck!!!!  I don't know what is wrong with me.  Actually that's not true, I know exactly what is wrong -- I can't stop eating.  I have kept up with the walking every day, but that's the only time I don't have food in my hand.

I am almost scared to post this 1.5 lb loss, since it only showed up today. I got on the scale once, and that's what it said, so I said SOLD and did not get on again like I usually do. I have been trying very hard to keep my cals below 2000 though, and mostly succeeding. Last night was hard, but clearly avoiding the chocolate paid off!

gracie, just keep with it, I know you can!! Just say No to snacks!

victoriagirl, thank you for the kind words.  And congratulations on the 1.5 lb loss.

Wish me luck next week.  We are going on vacation.  Hopefully we will be doing a lot of hiking and walking so the exercise should be okay.  Just have to not go more overboard with the eating.

I would love to buddy up!!

This is for two weeks, but  I am still very happy.  We went on vacation last week and I was still able to lose.  I am sure it was from all the walking and hiking we did.  It's so fun up there.  Cold, but fun.  Now, just to try and stay strong through Christmas and leftovers.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Aw heck gracie, looks like it's just you and me, and even  I abandoned ship for nearly a month! I was on holidays away from home, and my boyfriend's scale was broken, so i didn't weigh at all from xmas onward. I am sad the 1.5 loss from Dec 10 was taken back....but I am glad that I didn't really gain anything but that. I will see a loss this week, I am sure of it, back to biking to work and watching my calories!

Hope your holidays were great :)
