Buffalo portobello burger

Quote  |  Reply

I don't remember if I posted this or not, but I had it today for late lunch. Delishes!

Main ingredients

  • Big portobello mushroom stem removed
  • Buffalo Pattie (I get them in Trader Joes)
  • Jalapeno Pepper Hot Sauce (I do mean hot) from Trader Joes
  • Fage
  • Ground Mustard
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Tomato, onion, egg plant, roman lettuce

Sauce:

Mix Fage, mustards and a dash or two of the Jalapno Sauce.

Cooking:

Slice up onion, eggplant and tomato. Sprinkle some kosher sea salt on both sides. On eggplant also spread some crushed garlic and on tomatoes a dash of the hot sauce. Sprinkle some salt on the portobello mushroom.

Cook the onion, egg plant, and mushroom first since they take longer. Mushroom takes the longest so start it first. A quick tip is to heat the skillet damp a piece of paper towel in oil and wipe the surface. I use hard-anodized skillet, well worth the price.

Once they are done clean the skillet (or you can use another one in parallel). Re-heat it again to make sure it is really hot. Salt and pepper the Buffalo pattie and cook it on high heat 2 minutes per side. This will lock all the juices in since buffalo meat is low on fat. Reduce the hit and cook about 5 minutes per side on medium. Along side cook the tomato slices, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Assembly.

Spread the sauce on mushroom underside, top with tomato slices, onion slices, another layer of sauce, buffalo patties, another layer of sauce, grilled eggplant and top with big leafs of romanie lettuce to hold it all together. You can also sprinkle some of your favorite seasoning. I like the one from Red Robin. Yeah yeah plenty of sodium, but tastes great. Tongue out

That sounds so good! Unfornately no TJ near me so I think I may have to make my own spicy buffalo patties somehow.. Also was wondering- what is roman lettuce unless you meant romaine? Thanks for sharing!

Ha ha, yeah romanie. Regular one works well also. You just need something to hold it all together from the top.

This sounds tasty-

But, being from the UK- buffalo is not available. What should be used instead? Lean beef?

Also, what is fage?

Thanks

Sure lean beef will work, or sword fish steak. Fage is a brand of greek yogurt.
