Hey.. thanks a lot for that pole.  Were you bulimic if you dont mind me asking?.. How long did it go on for and did you get medication from the doctor afterwards?
hi fitness. i had bulimia/ednos (eating disorder not otherwise specified) for about 6 years, but am now recovered.

i recovered through an inpatient hospitalization ( i was having heart problems, years of therapy, anti-anxiety med, a nutritionist and HARD WORK.)

please let me know how i can help you
No, I am sorry, I never have experienced bulimia. My problem was to consume 200-600 calories for 3-4 days, then binge on thousand of calories one day, then back to the 3-4 days of 200-600 calories. I used to eat nothing but processed sugar and caffeine. So cookies, pastries, garbage and fillers. 10 years of that sort of behavior definitely does significant damage to the body. I also used to dehydrate my body and suffer from terrible UTI and kidney infections. I've been on this site since the end of March, things are getting better, but it takes constant work and dedication.
allirenee.. i just am confused.. I've only had it for about 4 months..(( i am not bulimic anymore though)) should I see a doctor for medication for my brain? The thing is though since it wasn't really long, and not a very seriously life threatening case do you think I should really have to do that? I have currently stopped and I am trying to be healthy again. I never lost a lot weight about 9 pounds, but have gained more than that back. I want to be back to my original size, but I am having a really hard time doing so. I just need some advice.. what should I be doing?
fitnessfrenzy...it is great that you are working on this so soon into the process....go see your doctor and have a conversation about you and your relationship to food.  He or she should be able to let you know what you need.  If you are not satisfied with what the doctor has to say go see another one.  Good luck.

PS;  Create a profile so we can know a little about you.
hi fitness -- i'm not sure what you mean by medication... there's no medication to 'cure' an eating disorder. however, if you also struggle with depression, anxiety, etc, there ARE drugs to treat that. Bulimia for ANY amount of time CAN be lifethreatening as it can disrupt your electrolyte balance. if you have insurance, i would go to your doctor, tell him your history and maybe ask for an electrolyte check (they do this through bloodwork) other than that... my advice for what you should be doing:

1.) see a therapist to address the underlying causes of your disorder

2) eating balanced, healthy meals and snacks, not with an eye towards losing weight, but towards resotring your health.
Once the seed has been planted, its always there. You said you only had it for four months. You may have only practiced bulimia for four months, but youll have it for life. Its a really good idea to reach out the way you are, and find suport for the futer. I would love to see you go to the doctor, profesionals have a way of sorting all the crap out for us! :) I admire you for getting a handle on this, and taking the steps to get yourself healthy again. You can do this! Id love it if you created a profile, Id love to add you as a friend.

Eating disorders are much like alcoholism and drug addictions once you admit you have a problem you can fix it but it will be with you forever and something that has to be dealt with.

Seek professional help now while its in its infancy.
I'd really like to talk to you, but not via a post. Feel free to email me at Skaktidance8@yahoo.com~

i'm recovered from bulimia and recoverING from anorexia... i would love to talk to you too.. you can e-mail me if you would like at stephanie_kukkonen_14@hotmail.com

Dear fitnessfrenzy, I have been bulimic "on and off" for 11 years. When I started in high school I actually gained weight after a few years because I was binging more than I was purging. How old are you? Can you talk to your parents about this? Finally telling my parents was a really big help the first time I stopped.

I have relapsed many times, but ONLY WHEN I BINGE. For myself I always find that the when the behavior creeps back in (and it usually does because of emotional/psychological reasons) I can stop it in it's tracks by never eating to the point where I feel 'too full' and uncomfortable and want to purge. In the end that has helped me lose much more weight than binging/purging. And it makes me feel much happier, healthier and confident.
