bulimia recovery buddy?
I am in desperate need of a person who needs to recover from bulimia and who wants to go through it wiht me. Ive been trying to do it myself for a long time andd its not working lol. Ive been bulimic for about a year and absolutely hate everything about it, but cant seem to stop. any takers? :)
I am in recovery from anorexia but if you want you can PM me. I hav a couple good friends from inpatient who have suffered from bulimia and really recovery is very similar. Also you may want to look over on the weight gain forum too. There are a range of ed issues there.
okay thanks!
hello, you can speak with me anytime, i have been bulimic for 3-4 years, im not purging these months/days, but i know it can happen anytime, i just try very hard not to and im very happy of result
that would be so helpful :) what did you do to stop? i cant seem to eat regular sized meals no matter what i do. its either eat everything, or nothing... im going to college in a month so i figure i cant really purge while there so ill have to stop no matter what which is good, but id like to stop now and enjoy the rest of my summer...
Well, im not sure how to explain it, but i learnt to say 'stop' to myself.. It's quite difficult, i still think that someday i will purge once i get a lot of food at home, but ill try to hide it so that i could eat it within few days or a week or something.. I think just you have to do everything in order not to purge, the most powerful thing is to eat pretty healthy, normal amount of calories, because if you eat healthy you will not feel like you have done a 'mistake' and that you are 'guilty'.
Im not really sure how to live on with bulimia without any problems though.. I still have lots of them, I kind of don't feel when I want to eat and when I don't.. My 'i dont want to eat' is probably when my stomach is so full that there's no space in it. Though this leads to purging definitely, so i would say that i always want to eat, everything is out of balance.
Hey I'm recovering from bulimia as well! I've been bulimic for a couple years, off and on, and started seeing a counselor a couple months ago.
I thought I could do it on my own but had to start seeing someone to do it and it's helped a lot.
My decision to stop had to do w/ an emergency room trip basically b/c of being so dehydrated mixed w/ having a panic attack :( So pleeease work at getting better b/c I don't want it to happen to you, it was scary.
oh wow yeah i definitely dont want to go t the hospitol! :P and thanks for shring your story with me yatenkun.... my idea to recover i know isnt that healthy bu this is my plan lol...
1) start running again (ive been recovering from stress fractures so i havent been able to)
2) i didnt eat anything yesterday and i plan to wicked restrict what i eat for the next two days, which i know isnt healthy, but it wont kill me and i think it will help my mindset of when i start eating three regular meals a day because i wont worry about gaining a ton of weight since i hadnt eaten much 3 days prior.
I'm on day two, and so far so good lol.
Ummm it's a REALLY bad idea to restrict when you're recovering from bulimia- it'll lead to more bingeing which means more purging, etc and the cycle begins again. Try to eat as "normal" as possible.
I totally agree, this is really the worst thing you can do.. you must start eating normally as soon as possible, put your stats in here:
http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html
and start eating as many calories as described there..
do not ever starve seriously, because it slows down metabolism, and when you start eating normally your body gains a bit more weight than it had before for a while, and if you scale yourself pretty often you will be scared and your 'purging' circle just won't stop and you will go back..
personally i do not believe that it is possible to 'totally be healed' from bulimia, but you have to start eating normally, no starving especially.. only as normal as possible eating will help you.. and definitely i would suggest you seeing doctor, because really only small amount of people 'recover' without doctor.. most people get a chance to see doctor in two ways: either they go see doctor by themselves, or they are forced to see doctor when they starve too much so that they become very ill.
I dont think you can ever be properly 'healed' from bulimia but currently i am doing very well so feel free to message me. i am currently having problems with restriction so would be great to chat and exchange stories :)
Hi!
I see you've already received a lot of posts, but I definitely would be willing to be your bulimia recovery buddy! I posted a similar thread several months back also. I have had lots of food related issues for a while now, and have been self-recovering from bulimia for a while, and I have been doing great lately :) Please send me a message about anything at all! I love to give and receive advice!
Also, even though others have already said this, please don't "wicked restrict" for 3 days! It seems like the "right" and good thing to do I know, but it is completely unhelpful. Instead focus on eating a smaller amount of calories, that are very healthful, and exercise will make you feel better also.
best,
cowcow
