What is too bulky for women?

Quote  |  Reply

I personally like a little muscle on myself, I don't really care too much for other women--to each her own-- but I am really starting to find it intersting what women find to be "bulky". I just read this article http://www.leighpeele.com/bulky-muscles-and-t raining-females-the-definition and was surprised by the amount of women that think Jessica Biel is bulky.

Do you think she is bulky? Just curious.

She has more muscle definition than I would prefer on myself.  That being said, I don't think she's bulky at all!

I don't think she's bulky at all!!

I wouldn't mind having that much muscle-I am actually trying to "bulk" right now. I, for myself wouldn't want more muscle than that, but I really can't get at all how someone would even consider her bulky.

Thanks for answering.

I love your avatar plum_seed

If Jessica Biel is bulky then I am all about bulk. She is so hot! Madonna ahas more definedmuscle and I would love to look like her too.

Alot of women think it is unfeminine to be strong. Not me.

another vote for her hotness.

*points up* What they said............yup mega hot and that is not bulky at all!

Not bulky. Tight and defined. I like that. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is and the more calories you burn. There has recently been a study done on muscle and cancer. It found lower cancer rates in people who have more muscle. I have muscle but do not think I am bulky. Girls don't really get bulky unless they are taking a drug/supplement. We don't naturally produce enough testosterone.

I find it sad that people in that article said they would rather be fat than bulky!! I would love to have Jessica biels butt.... boobs, stomach!! lol She's hot!!

you know... the more and more i read about the so called mainstream ideas of looking good the more i just don't care.  to each their own.

i like looking (or at least trying to, im not there yet) hot for myself. my husband doesn't care that much as he thinks i look good already but i know he responds more when i have more self confidence in my body.

always enjoy leigh's perspective, she quite toned down in this article but many times she's so good at telling it like it is.

This word, "bulky", is starting to irritate me (not directed at the OP, just an observation in general). It gets thrown around a lot in here. Usually in the context of "I've just started lifting 3lb weights once every two weeks, am I going to get bulky?!?" I highly doubt it, dear - if it were that easy to build huge muscles, don't you think more women would have them? Wink

No, she's not too bulky. A bit heavier than I'd like to be, but I have a different body type anyway, and it makes little sense to compare.

Thanks for the article, that was an interesting read. "Rather be fat than muscular" - this is sad, very sad.

yeah its sad in a way but i find what people say and what they actually would truly think if they were shown the reality can be different.

This.

I think Jessica Biel is smokin` hot. She`s lucky enough to have a rather generous bosom on top of all that yummy toned-ness, I don`t see how anyone could think she is bulky or un-feminine.. I`ll bet most women who responded they`d rather be fat than bulky are just plain lazy and cringe at the thought of moving their huge behinds off the couch, and cutting back on those family sized bags of potato chips.

I'm thinking that one of the reasons for saying "I'd rather be fat than muscular (or thin)" is a simple defense mechanism. How many fat people claim they are OK with it simply because they gave up trying to lose weight? Easier to say "No, thanks, I love my XXXL size body the way it is" than "I tried 15 times and failed. I'm a loser and I secretly hate myself and all thin/athletic people".

I would love to have Jessica Biel's body - I don't see what people are picking up as "bulky" (whether they are defining that as fat or muscle).

well, maha, I like my XL body and that has probably been the the best thing for my efforts towards being healthy (and weight loss) was when it stopped being about self-dislike, and self esteem.

Not everyone who likes their big body is delusional. Nor are they are determined NOT to lose weight because of it : )

minda_spk, I am NOT saying people should hate their XXXL bodies. Loving your body and wanting to lose weight for health purposes only, or wanting to make your lovely body even better is a great approach that works much better than self-hate. What I'm saying is that most of very large people I know who say they don't want to change in reality tried, failed and gave up. They would like to change, but no longer believe in themselves, and don't like admitting it.

So in those pictures I thought the so-called "bulky" women actually looked much better and healthier...;)

Speaking as a weight-lifting woman, I think tone is pretty sexy - I even find 'bulky' sexy, but Jessica Biel is most definitely not bulky, she's in fantastic shape and she's still undeniably female.

From what I've learned due to discussions brought up because of my own penchant for weight-lifting, women who refuse to lift weights usually do so because they fear somehow looking unfeminine - as though picking up a weight will transform them into a man.

I have only been lifting weights for  2 months and my legs which tend to be large and really "bulky" in a fat stocky sort of way have done nothing but slim down and become more defined.

Power is good. Lifting weights is awesome but in all fairness I would not have had that opinion before learning about it in the fitness forum on CC. Cool
