I hope that this is the right place for this post but anyway, I started my weight loss adventure yesterday and am finding the tools on this site very useful. My black burn meter number number is 3330 with sedentary activity. Does that seem high? I have been trying to stay around 1300-1500 calorie intake. I assume that this is too large of a deficit but I was unaware that I burn that many calories a day without exercise. I also try to exercise (cardio) 3-4 times a week and burn about 500 calories doing so. That would take my deficit even lower. Is the black number accurate and if so, how should I adjust my workout accordingly?
I began my weight loss and coming to this site about 5 weeks ago..It's a great site..The tools are very useful and the people on here are very motivated and encouraging...I wasn't sure about the burn meter either, but someone posted and said she measured her's with a doctor's heart meter of some sort that measured her activity level also..She said this one was very near the doctor's.
I am being very careful to log everything I eat every day..I only weigh once a week..So, last week I took the burn meter number and divided my weekly calorie intake into it and it showed that I should lose 2.7 pounds that week..Then I weighed and that was what I had lost that week..So I feel pretty comfortable that it is accurate.
Mine seemed to be set high too..I guess we just don't realize how many calories we burn every day..I have been trying to keep my calorie intake set to lose about 2 lbs a week..I have a lot to go...Down 20 pounds in 5 weeks though.
Good luck and stay posted - We are all in this together.
I'm pretty certain the black number is accurate. Do you log any activity you do during the day, or just only gym activities/cardio ?
My black drop 10 for every few pounds i lose, and I entered a bunch of weights until I hit my goal weight and it read almost exactly the same number as I expect my maintance to be There is a huge thread with people miantaining at my same height and they all pretty much consume the same amount of calories - that matched my end goal burn meter.
Reasons yours is higher, you are male, you weigh more, and you are probably quite a bit taller than me.
Try this link - it still has me a bit higher to maintain/burn meter but not by much, 200 at most all the others I tried. Link for the ladies
Thanks for the help...I log only my gym exercise. I figured that the other activities are built in to daily routine. Should I add more?
MJ,
So nice to meet you. I will tell you, I don't exercise enough to matter. I don't even watch the burn meter at all. If I have an extreme change in a day, then I log it on the activity meter, just for the fun of it.
Now, people who are sincerely exercising use the burn meter to help see patterns in weight loss related to activity and do use it.
I am thinking of Biggest Loser where they are required to burn so many calories per day to meet their burn target.
It would let you eat more per day and/or lose more to increase your burn target and meet it. I'm just not going to do that right now. Most likely when I am thinner I will need to.
I'm not sure, MJ. I've been exercising 4 times a week, for about 1.5 hours each day, and I've been keeping my intake between 1500-2000 each day, and my burn number is 3330ish also. I've been doing this since the beginning of October, and my weight loss has only been 5lbs the third week, and I gained 3 lbs the fourrth week. So for 4 weeks, I've lost 2lbs. It could be that I'm gaining muscle, to replace the fat that I'm losing, since I didn't weigh myself for the first time until the third week, and I started adding strength training to my regimen on the third week, also. Of course, it could be that I'm too far below my burn rate, and my body isn't letting anything go, because it's in starvation mode.
I'm hoping it's the replacing fat with muscle option, and I'm willing to believe this, because I find my clothes are all fitting differently. Pants are looser at the waist, shirts are tighter in the shoulders/ chest. And my moobs look a lot different than they have been.
