Why does my burn meter keep decreasing?

Quote  |  Reply

This might be a stupid question, but I don't understand why my burn meter keeps decreasing as I am losing weight. If I am still doing the same activities and exercise, shouldn't I be burning just as many calories? It is making me nervous because I like to eat and now I have to eat less!

do more INTENSE exercises

i wouldn't eat less calories

the best way to lose weight is to do interval training

where you run for a short period of time [like half an hour] but you switch it up

like you do 1 minute running at FULL speed, as fast as possible until you want to die from the pain, and then slow down and walk and RUN FAST again..

if you do this you'll be losing weight all through the day because your body will be trying to recover

but it's important to always Intensify your workouts

and lift weights

muscles use up your fat to grow and will tone you up

... also the thinner you get the less calories you'll burn

a 200lb person doing the same workout as a 150lb person is going to lose A LOT more calories

and as you lose weight the amount of calories you need changes, again it's not going to be the same for a 200lb person as a 150lb person

hope this help

dont worry, it's not just you :p

each pound of weight in your body, beit fat or muscle, will burn some number of calories every day.

one pound of fat requires a lower amount of energy, whereas muscle requires/consumes a much higher amounf of energy

when you lose weight, you're losing some of the caloric expenditure that your body would have at a higher weight. so, your body requires less energy to maintain that weight

you can make sure your burn meter is more accurate if you can measure and enter your body weight, such that it is proportional to how much muscle you have and thus more appropriate to your true expenditure

hope that helps! :)

thanks for the advice! this is really helpful information

I very recently spoke with a friend about interval training and have heard that it works well too. I will try it out and try not to worry so much :)

what you could do is have a session with a personal trainer

it'll cost about $40-$100 [depending on the trainer and the gym] for ONE session, which is expensive

but once you do it you'll know exactly what exercises to do, and you don't have to have more than once sessions... often times they'll even let you have a free consultation where you can just ask them what exercises you should do

and as you lose more and more weight you can go for more sessions, to change and intensify your work outs

My burn meter was at 1880 when I weighed 170.9, but after losing weight down to 165.5 the burn meter dropped to 1850.  So I have to eat about 30 calories less per day or 210 a week to maintain 165.5.  My goal weight is 145 lbs.  When I reach my goal weight, the burn meter will drop down again to a lower number in the 1700's.  By weighing less, you will burn less at a maintenance level.  So with that, I can't eat as much as I used to when I weighed 170 and if I do then I just do even more excercises than I already do.

I love to eat too and at first I was sad to know that I will need to eat less when I do get to my goal weight in order to maintain.  I've changed what I eat to healthier foods though and that includes alot of vegetables.  I noticed that I am less hungry now after eating all the vegetables when before I would be hungry still after eating junk food.

I know that I will need to increase my excercise time if I choose to continue eating the way I do.  I am a bit lazy right now (its still cold outside) so I will just have to eat less.

Basically the smaller you are the less calories you need. A small child needs less food than a grown man. Its a lot more effort for a 300lb person to climb the stairs than a 120lbs person. Simple

On average your BMR is 10cals for every 1lb you weigh. Although this varies slightly for your muscle v fat ratio.

So youll have to build more muscle and work out harder to carry on eating what you eat without gaining :-(
