Burn Meter??

Quote  |  Reply
I'm wondering why the calories burned are changing?? for the past few weeks when I type in my 60 min. of high impact aerobics it says I burned 881 cals. now today it says 876??? why is this. I haven't logged my weight since I've been at a stand still for a bit now! how can I give myself a little nudge to lose more, it seems so devistating when I weigh myself and the number is the same :(!

i hate the burn meter. if  i log out and then back in, it changes. not by one calorie, but by even hundreds. i log somethig in, the burn meter goes up.i dont really know how accurate it is!

i hate the burn meter as well - it doesnt make sense!
The burn meter is showing you how much you have burned since midnight. It then resets the next midnight. It is going up, because you burn calories every single moment you are living.

Thanks! however I know it goes up because everything you do you burn something, I'm just wondering why all the sudden my aerobics "calories burned" are lower than yesterday? just seems odd to me!
ooo! haha. wow, now i know why it goes up. lol. thats good. so now im not above my burn meter :)

It measures the BMR (basal metabolic rate) over the course of a day...so every hour it shows that you've burned off that hour. It's encouragement :). If you're calorie meter is below your burn meter, you're up for the day! Even if all you did was sit on your ass :)

As to why the calorie burn rate went down, most likely they just adjusted the metrics some. In reality, they are only estimations of actual calories burned and vary dramatically depending on conditions, etc. The calorie drop you seen (~10 kcal) is really nothing...a stick of gum. Nothing to be too concerned about :).

I am pretty sure the burn meter may take into account your trend weight versus just the last weight to have in system to have it smoother instead of jacking +/- based on .5 lb gain/loss on a day.  So when you last lost it probably did not give full credit for that lose (which actually would lower calories burned).  Take a look at your current trend weight on the weight chart/table and if you put the same actual weight in for today that you did 7 days ago I bet the trend weight for the 2 dates are different as it has givin credit for stabalized weight.

Date        ;       Actual    Trend

2007-12-19   203.50   205.93

2007-12-17   205.00   206.28

2007-12-16   205.00   206.53

Even though same actual weight for 12/16 and 12/17 my trend weight decrease from 206.53 to 206.28 and i am sure if enough time had passed prior to a lower entry it would calc my trend weight down to 205.

All this is based on speculation and observed behavior ...not facts of how it works

Any event do you really think those 5 calories would have any impact, as with any of these inputs burn / cal intake etc, I am sure have probably a +/- variance of 100 calories a day.   Even though you logged 60 minutes of high impact aerobics do you realistically think your body was burning at that exact rate for 60 min (any small breaks for water, grabbing Mats, whatever, etc.) so there is error already built in....When I eat my medium Banana am I assured exactly 118 grams and x amount of calories ... probably not.

the burn meter is based on your current weight. Each time you weigh lesser, you body burns lesser calories for a certain exercise than what you used to burn when you were heavier. Think of this way. You body burns a lot more to carry your weight around when one is at  250 pounds versus when one is at 150 pounds.
