The Burn Meter

If I do not add activity cals then burn metr for day = 2000. Why is t that when I add say 700 cals, the total estimate does not increase by the total 700 number?

Your body burns a certain number of calories per day without you having to do anything, if you laid in bed all day you would still burn that number.  So you can eat up to that number of calories, in your case 2000, and not gain any weight.

The 700 calories you burn are your gross calories - when added to your burn meter, however, it adds your net calories, which are the calories you burned minus the calories you would have burned had you not worked out.

As an example, my daily burn rate is about 2400 (rounded to make numbers easy) which means I burn 50 calories every half hour just being alive.  If I go work out for 30 minutes and burn 500 calories, my burn meter will actually go up only 450 because it takes out the 50 cal I would have burned anyway.

but how do you know what to set it at right now i have it on moderate for exercise because i exercise a hour to a hour a half a day but just started doing it 5 days ago when i joined this web site . So should i have it on moderate since i am exercising constantly every day or seditary since before i joined i was barely exercising?

 Choose the activity level that most closely matches what you do every day.  Then add any activities over and above that.  The top number on your Burn meter shows your estimated burn for the day.  The bottom number shows what you have burned at the time you are viewing it.
