Burn Meter

Quote  |  Reply

OK, I have a question for the group...what is the Burn Meter and how does it work...I see the number going up but I have no idea how or what causes it.

I try to walk a mile or two a day at work and then work out at Curves 3 days a week, where do those calories burned go...are they added in to the burn meter...HELP!

The burn meter is your CC recommended daily calories, based on how you filled out the profile. Whether you picked sedentary, light activity, moderate, etc. as your activity level. Any exercising you do above that you have to add under the activity tab. the burn meter starts at 0 at midnight and slowly adds what it thinks your average caloric usage is at the time. I found for me. it was easier to choose sedentary under the activity level in my profile. Then add any exercising I do through out the day under activities. Once I got a feel for the average over a few weeks I then changed it to light activity, as that fit me best. The only thing I now add under activities is my daily bicycle rides.

I hope that helps you. If anyone else has a clearer explanation please jump in.

OK, I changed mine to sedetary.  I will add in my walking and my gym on the appropriate days.

Right now, mine says 3106 and 3550 is my estimate for the day....So if I am reading things correctly, that is what CC thinks I should burn, being sedetary...so anything extra I do, is just more calories burned...I just want to understand.

Plus the difference between how many calories you've consumed is in your favor. Basically if you consume 500 calories less then your basic daily requirements plus any extra calories you burn through exercising you should loose 1 lb a week 500x7=3500.  3500 calories= 1lb. Just a rule of thumb. some days you won't loose anything due to water retention, or new muscle as a result of exercising. cc says you shouldn't go more than a 1000 calorie deficit per day.

OK, so this morning is said my burn meter for the day is 2930.  My caloric intake is 2200.  so that is about 4900 calories a week, not including my gym work outs (1500-1800 calories) and walking (1000 calories a week maybe).

Does that seem reasonable to you or is it too much.

But I think I finally got it!

LOL

Sammariebob,

Sounds pretty reasonable.  Would mean about a 1.4 pound loss per week if all things are equal, meaning water weight...metabolism stays the same, exercise stays the same, hormone levels stay the same.

There are a lot of factors that contribute to weight loss.  Including the fact that your burn meter is an estimate, not exact.  It would take some pretty expensive testing done daily to have an exact figure.

But for a ballpark figure that is about it.

TexMom and Genowg,

Thanks for the input.  I really just wanted to understand what it was doing.  I like when I can understand things, makes me feel better about what I am doing but for some reason, just could not wrap my hands around that one.

The burn meter is a running total of what you have burned as of that time.  It starts out with the estimation of your normal burn based on your lifestyle and other questions you answered in the account settings.

The number goes up because it is based on time past.  It will also go up when you log an activity.

If you check it at 12:01am, it will say something like 2-4 calories burned, for example.

CC displays this right next to your eat meter so that you can see what you have taken in versus what is going out.
